Sabres, Trenton deadlocked in best of five semi-finals By SHIRLEY GOLDEN The New Tanner The Acton Juvenile Sa- bres are tied at one game each with Trenton in OMHA semi-final playoff action fol- lowing a 1-0 loss in Trenton on Sunday. Although Acton is play- ing a best-of-5 game series, game 3 in Trenton tonight (Thursday) is critical because the winner will have the ad- vantage heading into game 4 on March 14 at Acton. Netminder Mike Kempton was superb in Sun- day's loss to Trenton. Trenton scored its lone marker half way through the second period on a power play-- a period that Acton played short-handed by two men because of a string of penalties. Although Acton out- played Trenton, they were unable to capitalize on their numerous power play © tunities and had to se the 1-0 loss. "T couldn't have asked them to play better," coach Rob Pembleton said on Mon- day. "They Eo ayed smart hockey and I know that they can do it again. It took 10 minutes of sud- den death overtime for the Sabres to clinch a 4-3 win in the first pen on Saturday in Acton. Trenton opened scor- ing in the first period and the Sabre's came back when Trevor Malloy scored with just five seconds left in the first period. The Sabre Juveniles moved ahead five minutes into the second period when Rob Turpin let go a blister- ing shot in the upper left cor- ner that seemed to catch the Trenton goalie unaware to make it 1-1. Phil McIntyre scored le for guickly in the third period _ before Trenton retaliated with two goals to end the pe- riod in a 3-3 tie. This neces- sitated ten-minute sudden death overtime. Four minutes into the overtime period, Phil Mcintyre scored single handedly to get his second goal of the game.
