12 THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, MAY 21, 1998 Does one inch make a difference? QUESTION: I have a 1997 Ford Expedition with 17inch all-terrain tires. I have four 16 inch summer radials in the garage. Would the one inch difference in the tires hurt any- thing? This vehicle was also available with 16 inch tires. ANSWER: Many things would be affected by changing tire size, such as: 1. Speedometer calibration. Your speedometer would read too fast. 2. Transmission shift point would feel strange. 3. Fuel economy would be affected. All of this could be corrected by changing the driven gear on the vehicle speed sensor in the transmission. The real issue here is cost. Although the speedo gear is approximately $12 (plus labor), 16 inch rims list for $442 EACH. It would be much more economical to buy four 17 inch summer tires than to buy four 16 inch rims and have to change your speedo gears \ spring and fall. Sell the 16 inch tires and put the money towards new 17 inch tires. J I1O.D.E. REPORT Eleven ladies met at Royal Café for a delicious dinner at 6:45 p.m. the one time they are always on time. We can- not thank the folks at the Café enough; they treated us like queens. The food is out of this world and we always have enough enough food left over to take home for next day's lunch. To the folks at the Royal we say a double thank you. Our bazaar lady Ernestine had a re- ply back from the church reusing it for our November bazaar. Costs have cer- tainly gone up and we will have to dis- cuss this further before we answer. But we thank them for their reply. A thank you note was received from Don Ryder for the message sent on the death of his sister Marguerite. Our next meeting is PICNIC TIME at the home of Regent Helen, the time 6 p.m. Come on out ladies and enjoy the last meeting until September and add a few more calories to your waist line.
