THURSDAY, JUNE 4, 1998 Halton Hills Recreation and Parks Department is pre- senting a summer of adven- ture and fun with day camps under the supervision of Acton supervisors Sarah Carney and Sara McNeill. The nautical theme of the Acton programs is based around treasure, inviting campers to discover the treas- ures of summer at camp, co- ordinator Stephanie Jones explains. The Acton-only camps include: Soccer Camp -- Offered only in Acton, participants can kick-start their summer with all the skills and drills they need to score the win- ning goal. On the field at Acton High, instructors will guide campers through the ins and outs of the sport. Dance Camp -- 1,2,3,4, step together step... This speciality camp is offered at Acton High School and pro- vides participants with a chance to try out some new and different forms of dance, including flamenco! All dancing will be done to to- day's popular tunes. Drama Camp - For as- piring actors and actresses, this camp is offered in July at Acton High School. Camp includes using creative ex- pression through theatre games, mime, and work- shops with instructors and guest speakers. Sport Adventures -- If you are a sports enthusiast, this camp is for you. Campers will also go on a weekly bus trip. Studio Art -- Arm your- self with creativity because this camp is for the craft minded. Offered at the boat house at Prospect Park, Jr. and Sr. Studio Art camp in- cludes working with a vari- ety of mediums, swimming and guest speakers. Nature Camp -- This two- week camp is full of nature- based activities with an em- phasis on environmental preservation and exploration. An overnight is incorporated into the second Wednesday of each session. Two sessions will be offered this summer at Acton's Prospect Park. Tennis Camp -- For the beginner and experienced player, our tennis instructors will guide participants through all the skills needed to perfect the game. Located at Prospect Park, this camp is offered twice in the sum- mer and includes swimming. Hat, sunscreen and tennis racquet are required. Baseball Camp -- Batter up! This camp will give par- ticipants a chance to improve their baseball skills. Whether new or experienced, baseball camp is the place to enhance skills and learn new tech- niques from the instructors. This camp includes swim- ming, guest speakers and a trip to a Blue Jays game! Summer Activity Cen- tres -- For youth ages 6-9, songs, games and crafts are in store with swimming twice a week and bus trips to the Metro Toronto Zoo, Black Creek Pioneer Village and Paramount Canada's Wonderland. Junior Activity Centre is offered for three sessions at Acton High. Acton Carnival -- Abra- cadabra, the most magical event of the summer takes place at the new Acton arena on Tuesday, July 28. Includ- ing games, prizes and live entertainment, the theme for this year's carnival is magic.
