6 Triplex plan rejected The owners of a house at 113 Main Street North house have not abandoned plans to legalize a third apartment unit at the property, despite a refusal of a minor variance application by the Commit- tee of Adjustment which said recently that the application' is "not necessarily inconsist- ent with the area," but be- yond the scope of the Com- mittee. . Owner Peter Fobert of Georgetown will apply for a rezoning and official plan amendment to allow him to continue renting a basement apartment in the house, which has operated as triplex for 19 years. The basement apartment was vacated while the application was heard and remains empty. Although the Official Plan designates the property as low density residential with room for one unit, in 1979 the Committee of Ad- justment allowed a duplex dwelling on the property. Planning staff noted that on-site parking and ameni- ties are limited on the prop- erty and don't see the minor variance application as either "minor or desirable." Fobert's agent, his father Harold Fobert, argued that since the triplex had been in existence for almost 20 years with no objections, the minor variance should be allowed. The building is in a bad state of repair and Fobert said that improvements would not be made if the approval for the triplex was not received. THE NEW TANNER Dan C. Several times over the past few weeks I have been in grocery stores, (I do the shopping) and it causes me concern that ladies will leave their purse in a shopping cart unattended. They are providing a very good opportunity for a thief to grab the purse or just reach in and take money. Although this is not a criminal opportunity, it is a safety matter that has to be addressed. As I was warming up for my 3-pitch league on Wedrtfes- day, June 14 at Prospect Park I was appalled at the actions of a parent on the 10-12-year-olds Acton boys' ball team. The 10-12-year-olds were finishing up their game against Car- lisle. After the game a parent of one of the boys on the Acton team stood on the bleachers and began to verbally attack the head coach and the coach's son for the loss of the game. I can't repeat what this man said (it's not fit for prifit) but I know I have never heard such verbal assault in my life. The last time I checked baseball was a team sport and nine players make a team, not one! I was embarrassed for the residents of Acton, myself in- cluded, in front of the out-of-town teams. This man's actions and disgusting remarks towards the coach and the coach's son were uncalled for. I don't know the coach's name but I wish him the best in coaching this team. It took a special person to listen to the verbal assault against his son and himself and not retaliate. Obviously the coach and his son are special people.
