If the choke does not open fully it will hold the fast idle cam on the carburetor in the cold start position. This causes your engine to idle higher than it should. The linkages on a choke are designed to operate clean and dry. Use only cleaners that do not leave an oily residue, which will attract dust and dirt. A couple of other possibilities could be: 1. You are getting a winter grade fuel. Winter grade fuel is unstable to help with starting in extreme cold. 2. There could be carbon building up inside the combustion chamber. This car- bon gets red hot when the engine is running and it could act like a spark plug, firing the cylinders after the ignition has been shut off. 3.
