With nine active and five honouary. members the Kinettes have staged fund taisers and teen dances and they try to live up to the Kin motto of Serving the Com- munity's Greatest Needs. "We're in the midst of planning our third teen dance at the legion," said Kinette president Andrea Lavallee in a recent interview. "Programs for teens and youth in Acton are one area that we thought we could help and our first two dances were really well accepted by local teens and their par- ents," Lavallee said, adding that they also helped with a Cystic Fibrosis skate-a-thon FUN AND FELLOWSHIP: The Kinette Club of Acton is entering its third year with more plans to help the community and have fun. The Association of Kin Clubs is an organization of young business and profes- sional men and woman who met for fun and fellowship. Lavallee said she and other Halton's volunteers recognized Volunteers from Acton received formal recognition Wednesday for their part in Halton Region's Adopt A Road Program over the past year. Acton Agricultural Soci- ety volunteers cleaned and cared for five kilometres of Regional Road 25 north of 15 Sideroad while Superior Glove Works volunteers cared for a kilometer of Re- gional Road 3 north of High- way 401 and a kilometer of Regional Road 25 south of 25 Sideroad. They .were among 11 groups recognized at the Re- gion for regularly mowing Acton Kinettes also benefit from personal development, leadership training and the good feeling that comes from helping the community. My father was a mem- ber of the Lions Club and my brother and I were Leos and it's a good thing to teach your children there's more to do than just hang out," Lavallee said. In the past two years the Kinettes in Acton raised over $3,000 for the new arena, and also donated money to local hockey, soccer, base- ball, lacrosse and skating Acton Kinettes geared up for a third year of service groups. Each year the Kinettes also stage Operation Santa Claus to help local needy families. "Last year we raised over $1,200 to buy gifts for four families with pre-teens. We buy gift certificates from Acton businesses to keep the money in our community and gave them-- along with do- nated gifts -- to the families. This year we hope to raise close to $2,500 for this project," Lavallee said.
