Her husband, Shane Adams, also defended his world title which he won last ear at the international jousting championships, held as part of a Scottish Highland festival in Colorado. The Adams own Black Knight Entertainment which features the Knights of Val- our Medieval Road Show in- cluding a cast of 30 knights, magicians, fire-eaters, fal- coners, blacksmiths and jest- ers. While it was Shane, 29, who as a boy dreamed of slay- ing dragons and jousting knights after watching mov- ies of Robin Hood and Ivanhoe, Cassandra was . drawn into the jousting life by her marriage and her ac- knowledged skills as a horse- woman. "JT was very nervous going into the competition but I have tons of horseback train- ing and had been training good," Cassandra explained in an interview last Thurs- day. In the individual compe- tition two mounted riders, armed with lances and shields, make four passes at full gallop past each other as they try to hit their oppo- nent's shield and ultimately knock them off their horse. "The judges are looking . for proper shield position, good horsemanship, good sportsmanship and how you hit your opponent. You get three points ifyou rock them in the saddle and six points ifyou unhorse them," Adams said, adding that she goes world jousting crown | ter an event. Shane Adams also com- peted as part of the two-man Canadian team which tied for the gold with England, and had fourth place finishes in spear throwing and sta- tionary targets. The Adams, who teach jousting skills at their rural Acton farm, are trying to generate enough interest in jousting to turn it into a sport as it was in the 11" century. "We're hoping that we can get more countries in- volved and I'm talking to competitors in Australia, New Zealand and Belgium who are interested in coming S ea with the guys so felt pretty through a lot of Aspirin af- _ to Canada for a competition." aH S ee : New 3 ; courses ng a a starting ekly!
