THURSDAY, APRIL 13,2000 % Paster Tom Cullen is leaving Acton Baptist By FRANCES NIBLOCK. The New Tanner Like Abraham, Pastor Tom Cullen is waiting to see where God will lead him. After 11 years, Pastor Cullen is leav- ing Acton Baptist after preaching his last sermon on June 11. "I don't know," Cullen said when asked what he intends to do. "Tm going to some time studying and after that, I'm not sure where (we'll be)," Cullen said on Friday. "T'm waiting on God. All I know is that it is time to go. I don't know where God is go- ing to lead us," Cullen said, erring to Abraham, who was led by God to the Prom- ised Land. "I don't want to compare myself to Abraham necessar- ily," Cullen said, adding he and wife Janet had been talk- ing and praying about their future for the past few months, The Cullens have three children, John, Mark and Nora. Acton Baptist Church is Cullen's first congregation and he's most proud of the worship with that group. "T was glad to be part of a people who love Christ and sought to make Him known in the town and who continue to obey His word, week by week. | think that was the best thing," Cullen, adding he'd been privileged to work with some wonderful people in Acton, including Village Con- stable Bill Riddle. former ASSIC head Peggy Balkind and the principals at Acton's schools over the years. Under his direction Acton Baptist Church became well known for its innovative black light puppet show. "The community saw the puppets as something very special -- and it was. We pre- sented the Gospel through the puppets in a way that was imaginative and captured the audience." Children were one of Janet Cullen's focuses and she or- ganized and helped run chil- dren's breakfast club, first at St.Alban's Church and later at Robert Little and McKenzie-Smith Bennett schools. Cullen is currently in the middle of his Doctorate of Ministry, studying with a Boston seminary by mail, peer group and residency and said he'll focus on that work. Church elders will form a search committee to find a re- placement. Call The New Tanner with your news tips! 853-0051 THE BNEW.
