The Acton Agricul- tural Society is bringing the Starr Brothers Circus, from Florida, to town as a fund-raiser for its planned new fair building in Prospect Park. Society member George Henderson said the circus features human acts, not the politically incorrect elephants, big cats, and chimps. "I think they have some horses, but they have acrobats, trampolines, high wire acts and that kind of thing - no exotic or large animals," Henderson said, adding the circus comes with good references from service clubs in western Canada that had dealt with it. Circus officials suggested the Society give 1,600 free tickets to each Acton student, in hopes their parents would buy a ticket. "We ques- tions whether kids up to 14-years-old should get in free since there's no requirement that any child be accompanied by an adult, but that's the way they (the circus) does their business so we went with what they suggested," Henderson said, adding the Society gets 50 per cent of ad- vance ticket sales. Tickets are $10 in advance ae $16 at the door, with first-come, first seated basis. "'A lot of this is a big unknown," Henderson said when asked for details of the show, but we hope that it will be a lot of fun and help raise money for our new building." The Town will allow the society to close off Fellows Street on Thurs- day for circus vehicle parking. Society officials will handle parking, gate and security duty the two shows, at 5 and 7 p.m. La Ji.
