Flamborough wants to split among Burlington, Brant and Waterloo to avoid being merged into a Hamilton megacity. Halton opposed the plan, saying the dollars didn't make sense. The Min- ister of Municipal Affairs has the final word. Referendum Although Queen's Park will now allow municipalities to hold binding referendums on municipal election ballots, you can bet there won't be one asking to reverse any forced amalgamation because the province gets the final say on the wording. At 12:48 a.m. on Saturday, crews were called to a fire be- hind Elmore Drive. Neigh- bours, who saw youths in the area, had also called police. At 12:10 p.m. on Sunday, crews put out an unattended bonfire on Main Street South between Brock Street and Cobblehill Road. Monitor error? A fluctuating signal is the suspected cause of a false alarm at the Elizabeth Drive seniors building at 8:40 a.m. last Thursday morning. Al- though the monitor registered an alarm, the building alarm didn't sound and when fire- fighters arrived no one knew the alarm had been triggered. Motor error At 2:18 last Thursday af- ternoon firefighters raced to Acton High School after smoke was seen coming from the air vents in the main en- trance corridor and smelled in the science labs. A faulty motor in an air exchanger on the roof was the cause.
