Staff and students at HDSB have continued to rise to meet new chal- lenges and opportunities during the past three years ~and we hope that the new board of trustees is given the chance to continue working to improve educa- tion for all students. This is even more important now given the changing face of Halton's popula- tion. Each of our municipalities is experi- encing rapid growth, and this will bring even more diversity to our schools. Here are some of the highlights of his career: 2003- urged council to buy downtown Acton property providing 52 parking spaces and relieve parking and traffic congestion. 2001- Seconded motion to acquire nurse practitioner. Provincial funding now inplace. 2001- As Chair of Planning and Public Works, expedited the repair of Lakeview water line problems with epoxy liners, avoiding delay of project. 2000- Fought successfully, along with other citizens, against the sale of McKenzie Smith Bennett School Lands. 1999- Voted against the demolition of old Acton Arena, Majority of Council would not support Acton councillor's motion to defer: 1998- proudly oversaw the completion on the new Acton Arena Community Centre as member of project building committee. Chaired the Acton Proud committee, which fund raised over $200,00 for the new Acton facility. 1997- Provided council assistance to ensure completion of the Acton Legion Senior's Complex. 1994- Worked in tandem with Acton Councillors Elliott and Rennie to guar- antee completion of the Acton Urban Land Use Plan. Today, Acton has an outstanding new plaza and a full, build out of available housing in Acton East. 1992- Convinced Council of need for construction of a new Acton Firehall. Most modern fire facility in Halton Hills. 1991- Lobbied successful for establishment of Go Train service for Acton (Later discontinued following Provincial cutbacks) 1987- Actively supported the establishment of state-of-the-art landfill site in Halton Region- only one in G.T.A. Now the envy of most Ontario Municipali- ties ; 1985- As Acton's Regional Councillor, argued successfully for the implemen- tation of equalized assessment in Halton Hills, eee the previous inequity between Acton and Georgetown. 1984- Assisted in campaign to keep Acton's Hydro Office from closing. To- day, Halton Hills Hydro office is located in Acton.
