The tournament started against Beamsville, who dominated the Tanners 9-0 while out-shooting them 39-6. Jesse Hill stopped 18 shots in his half game, Colton Wiens stopped 12 while allowing only two goals. . The next day, the Tanners faced eventual finalists Niagara Falls, and*played one of their best games of the season, before eventu- ally losing 4-3. To be that close to beating an 'A' team is a big achievement, and the coaching staff were proud of the players. Wiens was the star for the Tanners, making numerous good saves as he went the dis- tance in net. Scoring for Acton were Eric Butson, Roger Kirkness and Clayton Black, assisted by Dylan Britton, Mitchell Brake, Jeff Curry and Wyatt Martin. Later that day, the Tan- ners played Hespeler 'A', the Hespeler team that Ac- ton's BB Tanners play, and the AE Tanners lost 10-0, with Hill and Wiens both. facing lots of shots. The team took a physical pound- ing also, as they had throughout the tournament, but they did some hitting of their own, despite their opponents' physical advan- tages. The Tanners closed the tournament against Woolwich, losing another close game, by a score of 3- 1. Tyler Christopher scored for Acton, assisted by Charlie Browes, Hill went the distance in net, stopping 16 shots, while Wiens made a start at left wing and played well. After the tournament, Coach Bill Curry defended the decision to complete in such a high level tourna- ment, explaining that he had wanted to challenge his team to perform against su- perior competition. He - expressed his hope that the team would come together in the face of adversity, which would prepare them better for the rest of the sea- son. It is certainly a good sign for the team that they were competitive in two of the games, if they can main- tain that level of play against their regular compe- tition they should do very well from here on in. Next home game is not until December. Scores and standings are at www.actontanners.com. Novice Tanners hammer Guelph Storm 7-1 Saturday The Carquest Acton Nellis Construction Novice Tanners travelled to Guelph on Nov. 15, and beat the Storm 7-1. Mason Overland stopped three shots but his shut-out was spoiled with two minutes left on a fluke shot off an Acton defender. Ryan Dunlevy led the way from Acton once again, scoring three goals and add- ing an assist. Dunlevy leads the team with 22 goals and Ducks race Otters at Orangeville swim The Acton Aqua Ducks competed at an Orangeville Otter open invitational, along with four other teams. "We were a little disap- pointed," reported Gerry Ockenden, head coach of the Ducks. This was going to be the first meet at Orangeville's new pool. Unfortunately, a week be- fore the meet they were told it wasn't quite ready, so we went to the old pool. We will just have to wait a while longer." The important thing, Ockenden says, is that the swimmers got a good workout with the compe- tition that attended, that is continued on page 17 31 points. Mason Galway moved up from defence to left wing, and scored his first goal of the season. Also scoring for Acton were Bradley Bollert, Walter Kirkness and Michael Evans. Carter Ebbinge and Bollert had two assists. Sin- gle assists were also earned by David Bickers, Evans and Kirkness. T.J. Baker was at +6 on defence-for the Tanners. Next home game is Saturday at 5:30. Scores and standings are at www.actontanners.com. Monday - Tuesday: Closed Wednesday - Friday: 10am - 7pm SiC sen)
