8 THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, JANUARY 8, 2003 200 HTA RIDE charges laid Halton Regional Police have concluded the five week an- nual holiday RIDE campaign, BOYES PUMPS & WATER TREATMENT Formerly Boyes Plumbing Water Softener] % Rentals =| Water Pump = Service which resulted in slightly over 32,000 vehicles being stopped at locations across Halton Re- gion. Total vehicles stopped dur- ing the campaign were slightly less than the 2002 total of 34,344. However the number of roadside 12 hour licence sus- pensions and criminal charges for impaired Driving/Over 80- mg related to actual "RIDE" check locations were signifi- cantly less during the 2003 campaign. Roadside screening tests to- talled 209 while 46 12-hour li- cence suspensions were levied, three ADLS driver licence sus- pensions and three charged. Two hundred Highway Traffic Act charges were laid and 634 warnings issued. Although statistics from "RIDE" checks are indicative that "people are getting the mes- sage," Halton Police said that Impaired Driving/Over 80 charges laid outside the param- eters of the "RIDE" program for the month of December were up from 27 in 2002 to 38 in 2003. Sincerely, Dawn Trussell, Recreation Supervisor Yule needs program helps 71 families To the Editor, Halton Hills Community Support and Information (HHCS&I) want to express our sincere thanks to all those who helped to make the holiday season special this past year for 71 fami- lies (174 children) in our community. This was a significant increase over last year so we thank the community for their tre- mendous support. During November and December members of the Halton Hills community generously donated many items to our Christmas Needs Program, including toys, clothing, knitting and money. Several local busi- nesses and individuals made financial donations to our program and these donations were used to purchase items of clothing for financially limited families. Thanks to every- one who took the time to make a donation. Many groups, churches, businesses and individuals assisted with our program by providing hampers for families. They purchased clothing and toys and put the hampers together for families. We are very grateful for their support of this program. Last year was a difficult one for many families and we are so pleased that the community responded to the increased need in a very generous way. We are very fortunate to live in a community where people care for one another and demonstrate that caring by sharing their resources with others.
