"That relationship is ah -- we've moved on and we've severed that rela- tionship with the Manes and we're moving on to the, ah, new franchisee is taking over," Norgate said, enthusing about Graham and Green, who left their Sobeys store in Blenheim (near Chatham) to relocate to Acton. "... Their store was turn- ing heads for what we call local store marketing, which is making all kinds of in- roads and showing their local support for their com- munity," Norgate said. Norgate said under the fran- chise agreement, Graham - and Green run the store and call all the shots, making.all management decisions and Sobeys provides the banner, marketing materials and fly- ers. In Ontario, Sobeys offers four basic banner stores in- cluding Sobeys, IGA, Foodland and Price Chopper. Norgate said the Acton store will "flip" to a Sobeys on February 20, once construction of an. additional 15,000 square- feet, including floral shop, pharmacy and "30 varie- ties of freshly baked bread," is complete. Norgate said the new Sobeys will be competitive and "priced right", and called the change in man- agement "exciting and positive for Acton." Norgate didn't have any numbers, but said the ex- pansion requires additional staff, including a floral specialist and pharmacy team. Service for Christian Unity Sunday morning at Legion Acton Ministerial Associa- _tionis sponsoring the eleventh annual service to pray for Christian Unity at the Acton Legion auditorium this Sun- day morning, January 18 at 10:30 am. Christians of all stripes whether church mem- bers or not, are invited to the- service which last year drew an estimated 900 people de- spite cold winter weather. A parallel special celebration for children is being held atnearly St. Joseph School with Out- side the Lines with the theme "Colouring Jesus every- where." The celebration will have music, fun and stories. Services for Christians Unity go back as far as 1740 but the formal Week of Prayer in Canada started in 1968 when the Council of Churches and Catholic bish- ops wrote international material for Canadian use. Court hearing January 29 By FRANCES NIBLOCK The New Tanner The 17-year-old Brampton youth charged with second de- gree murder of Acton's Raymond Getty, 15, appears via video remand for a court hearing on January 29. The youth will not appear in person in a Burlington court, but will appear via a video hookup between the court and a Hamilton detention centre where he's been held since his arrest on New Year's Day. . The teen, who was visiting his father's Danville Avenue home where the shooting oc- curred, cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Jus- tice Act, which protects his identity. A benefit to help the Bennett family to help pay for Raymond's funeral is slated for Saturday (January 17) at Manny's Roadhouse on Mill Street, Acton. Raymond's mother, Bonnie Bennett, said while outpour- ings of sympathy and support from the community have been "over powering," she's also had to contend with peo- ple who have ridiculed her for attempting to get on with her life, and for taking advantage of the community with the trust fund and benefit dance. "T never asked for any of ' that, and I never asked for any- body to kill my son," Bennett said on Tuesday. "T have a four-year-old. I have to move on. I don't have a choice -- somebody still has to take her to school. say get on with it."
