THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, JANUARY 22, 2004 Rick identifies players on Four Town Tourney champs me holding the Four Town Tournament trophy. Back in the 60s that was a huge tournament. It was Acton, Georgetown, Milton and To the Editor, The picture in last week's Tanner sure brought memories. I remember that tournament like yesterday. Acton were huge underdogs going up against the two larger towns. Georgetown was about 8,000 and Milton was about 7,000. You'd know better than me but Acton was about 4,000. We beat Milton 3 -- 1 an then we beat Georgetown 7- 0. These games took place in Fergus. The picture has Fergus. Every year a different town would host the tournament. The respective Legions would supply the lunch for all teams. Each town took great pride when it was their turn to host the event. We had a great team. Here is a list of all of the players and there were two who _ were missing. Back Row: Coach Bill Knight, Randy Downes, Ken Hurren, Pete Morrison, Dave Foster, Ron Louttet, Rod Gibbons, Treth Armstrong, Randy Coker, Manager Ken Marshall. Front Row: Mike Pope, Harry Lawson, Steve Marshall, Rick Bonnette, Randy Marsh, and Jim McNabb. Missing from the photo is Dave Braida. This woman, through no fault of her own, had her life drastically and tragically changed forever in the blink of an eye. Ihave thought of her and her family every day since New Year's Eve. No one, including me, can even begin to comprehend how she feels or what her life is like now. How is it possible then, that some person or people actually believe they have a right to judge her much less criticize her?! I was utterly shocked and furious when I read that she feels ridiculed for her behaviour. Here is my unsolicited opinion: First of all, no one has a right to tell anyone how they should grieve, period. Second, I absolutely applaud what incredible strength of will it must take to make her little girl's days as happy and normal as possible. Third, everyone has a right. to their own opinion, but how could anyone be so thoughtless that they felt she had to -hear it? Fourth and finally, I think Bonnie and her family deserve every nice thing that ever happens to or is given to them for the rest of their lives because no amount of love and support and money will ever come even remotely close to making up for their loss. Sincerely, Susan Bergin Acton Trust fund, dance created for community in mourning To the editor, Re: court hearing After reading the above article, my wife and I were saddened and angered to hear that Bonnie Bennett and her family are taking criticism and_ being accused of taking advantage of the community's support and kindness. The trust fund and charity dance for Raymond Getty were created for a community in mourning who feel they need to express in some Hard for To the Editor, I would like to say that reporters need to get their stories straight when they are writing about the stuff in the community. One of the stories I am talking about is the death of Raymond Getty. In the story you have the accused mother who went to the wake, but was not invited to the funeral. The accused's manner their deep sympathy for the family's loss. Not all of us know the family or Raymond personally, but still wanted to find a way to help. Whoever the members of the community are that feel they needed to express their unwanted opinions should feel disgraced with themselves. Like many in our community, we can only imagine how difficult it must be to deal with the death of a child. It is a true shame that all three mother did not go to the wake, but she sent flowers and her sympathy. She also did not go to the funeral. I know Raymond's family is going through a tough time, but has anyone thought about the other families involved? For an eleven-year-old to see that, and his family to hear what has happened is tough. It's going to be hard for Bonnie and her family must now deal with the ignorant opinions of people who have no right opening their mouths. No one has forced anyone to contribute to the trust fund. We live in a small community where it makes us proud and comforted to know that we can support each other in our times of need. This is what makes our community stronger. Signed, Sympathetic, yet disgusted. families all three families, I know. But that's what friends, family and the community are for. Thank-you for your time. From a friend of the families. Surprised by article re more police presence in Acton To the Editor, I was surprised by a front page article that appeared in the New Tanner edition on Jan. 15 about a greater police presence in downtown Acton. The article indicated that a petition had been circulated by local businesses and the Acton Women to Women business association and presented to the police and also to the Town. i was also surprised as no comment was printed by the BIA. other business owners over our police coverage. When I am open late I always see a cruiser or an on foot officer passing by. The BIA has long worked with our Village Constable to maintain a presence on Mill Street. We have enjoyed an excellent relationship in the past and look forward to continuing it in the future. I think the unnamed business owner and The New Tanner did a disservice to both our youth and our Police Service by the article. As a downtown business owner and member of the Acton BIA I was surprised to read this. I never did have either petition presented to me to sign nor did a number of other businesses in town that I had talked to. I have not even heard of many complaints from the facts. Regards, Monica Galway, Owner, Profile Hair Salon Editor's Note: A signed petition was circulated and The New Tanner only reported
