Never occurred to writer mayor wouldn't have access To the Editor: Further to the letter from D. Heuman published January 15", I felt compelled to respond. As a resident of Rockwood, and an active business person, my re- action to the comments made was "Are you new"??? In my view, here's the deal. Running a township is a busi- ness. We elect those whom we feel'are best equipped, person- ally and professionally, to help run our "business." Those newly elected, and who most affect my life, are the twonew councillors with ties to Rockwood. Both of those peo- ple have "day jobs", part of why I felt they are well equipped to assist with our business. It never occurred to me that they wouldn't have access to the Township office nor to in- formation required to do the job after daytime business hours. As far as I'm concerned, they give of their time to take on a second job, so they need to be able to do it. If that means they need to go to the Town- ship office and research issues brought to their attention by constituents at 4 in the morn- ing on a Sunday, I don't care. < Rockwood and District « 2! Soccer Association Final Registration Dates - Rockmosa Library January 31 from 10 to 1 February 14 from 2 to 5 ed) _ SOCCER ROCKS! @) Please, just do the job. I've also read elsewhere that there was a concern about infor- mation in files being lost. I'm sure that members of Council are aware of the restrictions in- volved in the new Federal Legislation PIPEDA, and would be taking appropriate steps to make sure that privileged infor- mation is kept private. Unless I'm wrong, doesn't the Township staff report to the Mayor? Gee, in my job, if my boss asks me to do something, I pretty much do it. If the request departs from. what I'm used to, Id be thinking "maybe this guy wants to be more helpful to peo- ple", and I'd respond in kind. Unless the request is immoral or illegal, how about just doing the job? Any other response would make me, as a boss, wonder if my staff has another agenda in- volved in not being willing to assist with my request. As far as making the request in public, again, being publicly asked to do your job is some- thing most of us face daily. I'm sure there wasn't really an "at tack." I, for one voted for a change in the way things are done in our Township. Hav- ing new folks aboard who wish to dig deeply into why things happen the way they do is fine with me. L. J. Robertson, Rockwood
