Hood made the announcement from his home in Erin, which is part of the new riding along with the Wellington County townships of Centre Wellington, Guelph/Eramosa and_ Puslinch; and the Town of Halton Hills in the Region of Halton. For 21 years Hood was a referee with the National Hockey League. Following this career he entered the travel industry and owned and operated several successful travel agencies over a 15-year period. He was also vice-chair of the Travel Industry Council of Ontario and President of the Association of Canadian Travel Agencies. In 2000, the federal government appointed Hood to a two-year term as Canada's first Air Travel Complaints Commissioner. Throughout his professional life Hood has been on numerous boards and committees, and continues to support community organizations and service clubs. "T am very excited at the opportunity to serve this new riding," said Hood. "I believe the experience and knowledge I have gained during my professional sports and business careers, and as a consumer representative in Ottawa, have prepared me to be a very good and effective voice for the people of Wellington-Halton Hills.
