The Tanners lost the best of five series to Saugeen 3-1 Novices throttle Erin 5-0 take 3-1 playoff margin The Carquest Acton Nellis Construction Novice BB Tanners faced Erin in their second OMHA semi-final game, after tying the first game 1-1. This time the Tan- ners left no doubt about the outcome, throttling Erin 5-0 to take a three points to one lead in the first-to-eight points series. The key to the victory was. the play of the Tanner de- fence of Brodie MacFarlane, Callum Bowles, T.J. Baker and Mac Browes (Michael Fatrdla was unable to play, but still came out to cheer on his teammates.) The Tanners defence allowed only three shots on Goalie Mason Over- land, making it easy for him to record his seventh shut-out of the season. Acton had 25 shots on the Erin goaltender, as the Tan- ners maintained pressure throughout the game. The line of Carter Ebbinge, Walter Kirkness and Billy Mowat accounted for all the offense, Ebbinge scored once after some nice passing with' Kirkness, while Kirkness scored the other four, three of them assisted by Ebbinge. Mowat and Baker also had single assists. Lose to Brampton The Tanners started their Tri- County playoffs with a 3-1 loss in Brampton on Feb. 12. Acton actually out-shot Brampton 15-10, but were often pinned in their own end by the aggres- sive Brampton forwards. Acton's goal was scored by Ryan Dunlevy, assisted by David Bickers, but it came with only three minutes left in the third, with Brampton hold- ing a 3-0 lead, as Acton's comeback fell short. The Tri-County playoffs continued on the 15", with a 4-4 tie at home to Burlington. Burlington jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game, but Acton came back to tie it at three, then fell behind 4-3, before scoring to earn the 4-4 tie. Michael Evans led the way for Acton with two goals and an assist, Ryan Dunlevy and Walter Kirkness had the other goals. Damian Ewing had two assists, T.J. Baker and David Bickers had single assists each. Tied with Erin Tanners had started their best of seven OMHA semi- final against Erin on Feb. 3, and came home with a 3-3 tie. The Tanners outshot Erin 32-9, but again had difficulty solving the Erin goaltender. Acton took the lead on the power play, as Callum Bowles' point shot went in off Walter Kirkness's skate. Erin tied it. Then the Tanners retook _ the lead on an unassisted goal by Ryan Dunlevy. Erin scored two in the third to take the lead, and appeared on their way to a win, until T.J. Baker scored the equalizer with only three second left, unassisted, with the Acton net empty. The teams then played 10 score- less minutes of overtime, the last two minutes of it with Acton shorthanded, before ending it as a tie. The series is now first to eight points. The Tanners travelled to Georgetown on the 6" for an exhibition rematch with the Novice AE Raiders. The Raiders won 5-1 last time, this time it ended in an evenly matched 3-3 tie. Mason Overland stopped 10 shots for the Tanners, his Georgetown counterpart stopped 13. Tanners scoring was David Bickers from Mac Browes, Ryan Dunlevy from Mason Galway and Billy Mowat from Walter Kirkness. Atom Tanners trail Goderich The Denny's Atom AE Tanners split weekend games with Goderich, after los- ing the opener last week. The Tanners now trail two games to one in the best of five game series, and must win both remain- ing games to take the series. The second game of the series was played in Acton on Feb. 14, and was won by Acton 7-4. Goderich outshot Acton 30- 21, but Colton Wiens made a number of good saves to keep Acton in the game, while the Goderich goaltender struggled. Goals by Tyler Christopher, Wyatt Mar- tin and Eric Butson gave Acton a 3-1 lead, but Goderich came back to tie it 3-3 at the end of the first. Acton went ahead 4-3 when Roger scored on a penalty shot af- more by Kirkness, before Goderich scored to make the final 7-4. Kirin Rice appeared to have also scored for Acton, but the goal was disallowed because the referee had not seen it go into the net. Acton did not do much hitting in the game, except for Holden Carachi who had four, including a couple of very pow- erful checks. The series returned to Goderich on the 15", and Goderich won a close, exciting game 3-2, to take a 2-1 series lead. Both Jesse Hill in net for Acton, and Goderich's goalie made numerous good saves, as Goderich outshot Acton 27-26. Neither team could convert many shots into goals, as the goalies were playing very well PEEWEE POWER: Strong play from Cameron Coady helped Gibbons Paint- ing to a 7-1 win over Acton Precast in Peewee House League play on Saturday at Acton arena. -Frances Niblock photo ter the puck was gloved by Goderich in their crease.
