THURSDAY, MARCH 11, 2004 THE NEW TANNER 1552 Letters New tax on add-a-rooms in trailer parks unfair Mr. Jim Bradley, Minister of Tourism and Recreation, This letter is referring to the new tax on add-a-rooms at trailer parks. For me this is not a problem but it may be for the senior citizens that enjoy their trailers in the summer with the added convenience of an extra room to keep away from the mosquitoes (West Nile) and bad weather. They have worked most of their lives to be able to enjoy the free- dom of this. Why would the government now try and take this away? A lot of people have a struggle to meet their seasonal rates never mind an added tax. We all have to pay taxes no one is denying that but to hit the people that have put the country on the map with all their years of ex- perience in different fields, I feel, is very unfair. This could also cause a lot of trailer parks to close if eve- ryone starts pulling out their trailers because of this tax combined with their seasonal fee. Is there no way we can look in a different direc- tion? Lannie Sousa, 79 Danville Ave., Acton Maybe Coles crazy but passports mail bonded To Hartley Coles: Re: Is the Government of Canada still this crazy, are you this crazy? I read your editorial about the passport offices with interest. Iam floored .to find out that the Govern- ment of Canada is still mailing our Canadian passports to people! And even more taken aback that you feel comfortable tell- ing everyone in and around Acton that your mail will include your passports in the next two weeks! We keep hearing about mail theft. We keep hear- ing about the theft of Canadian passports and their value on the black market. It was my under- standing that the Government had put a stop to using the mail for the passports. Please tell me that the delivery will. be with a bonded carrier that expects you home at the time to sign for them and check your ID. Brenda. Editor's note: Of course, they come by bonded carrier. Thought it would be self-evident. If -- the recipient isn't home then they are taken to the local post office where proof of identity is required to pick the passports up. Hope this clears the misconception up. Bonnette said it's a democ- racy at the council table and he appreciates Councillor Chatten's comments. He thanked staff for their long hours of hard work, and said he appreciated the debate during the budget process, even though it was a "little bit ornery" at times. "But when people care, and they become passionate about their community and passionate about the budget, I think that usually leads to good debate, as long as we don't take it home FIT € % ( y Certified Personal Trainer In-home Personal Fitness Training .
