A TOAST TO ST. PATS 6 a0 aq < 6 8 o M 2000 CARAVAN Rockwood * 856-2222 Shoppers Drug to open in new plaza By FRANCES NIBLOCK The New Tanner --Construction of a Shoppers Drug Mart store in the Leathertown Junction plaza should be underway by the end of the month, according to property co= owner Massimo Rovazzi. On Tuesday, Rovazzi said his company, Acton Retail Development Inc., hoped to have building permits for the 23,000-square-foot neighbourhood plaza, at the southwest corner of Queen Street and Young Street, by the end of the week. He said Shoppers could be open by the end of September. Rovazzi said Shoppers has a lease for a 14,500-square-foot store, and the design of the balance of the plaza will depend on the tenants. Rovazzi said Swiss Chalet will "likely not be a tenant" because of water issues, but there is a 50-50 chance of a bank leasing space, and earlier plans for a medical clinic are still under consideration. - When asked how he found the Acton property, Rovazzi, a lawyer in Woodbridge, said he drives through Acton every weekend on his way to go fishing in Fergus. continued on page 2 WINNING CALL: On Friday, Michelle and Glenn Hillier found out they won a car in the Heart and Stroke Lottery worth approximately $30,000. The Acton family is awaiting their winning confirmation letter as Glenn couldn't hear all the details when he received the phone call. Michelle was screaming with happiness. - Angela Tyler photo. Hilliers 'hit it big' in lottery BY: ANGELA TYLER The New Tanner Last Thursday was not a good day for Michelle Hillier. Just recently laid off from her job at Benguard: in Mississauga, she told the lady at the unemployment office that she hoped she would never have to file again. Friday, however was a better day. Coming home, Michelle and her daughter Megan, discovered a telephone number on their phone from the Heart and Stroke Lottery. At 3:31 p.m., nobody was home to take their call. Just after 4:30 p.m., Michelle's husband Glenn had returned home from his job with Mattamy homes. Michelle insisted to Glenn that they had won "big." A friend who was there at the time doubted Michelle's intuition. Yet, during his call back to the lottery, Glenn had realized they indeed won big. During the phone call, Michelle had tried to find out what they had won. Finally, Glenn divulged they had won a new car. Michelle started screaming and the details are a little sketchy from there. Glenn did discover, during what he could hear of the conversation, that they had won a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, worth approximately $30,000. It couldn't have come at a better time. Last December, Glenn's mother Sadie, passed away. After all the bills were paid, there was $100 left in Glenn's bank account. Since his family has long suffered with heart ailments, the family decided in January that they would buy a lottery ticket in support of the Heart and Stroke Association. Michelle and Glenn's theory was if "they won, they won...if not it would go to a good thing." Glenn's mom, who lived "Down East," had long played lotteries for a chance to win big. Glenn recalled her playing the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes. However, Sadie never seemed to strike it big. As anyone who knows Max will testify, there are no limits to his enthusiasm for anything green and growing and he truly stands by his pronouncement that Acton is "the jewel of Halton Hills". Max has quite a list of accomplishments, but he is quick to point out that "there is a lot of work and volunteer hours involved in that club (Acton Horticultural Society) and it's a group effort." Max, with the-support and participation of the AHS, has developed the Laura Dietrich Memory Garden into a beautiful tranquil showpiece by the Acton library; was instrumental in turning School Creek into a naturalized area for native Max in his garden plants; spent countless hours planning and planting Rotary Park, still a work in progress; spearheads the "wildly successful plant sale" on Mother's Day weekend which last year saw a profit of over $4,000 -- not bad for a three hour sale! And the list goes on. The judgés were in full continued on page 4 S ae Acton, ON 519-853-0200 info@achillesmazda.ca Ow § ie mat te Brggest. Our goal 6 to be the Set!
