THURSDAY, MARCH 25,-2004 THE NEW TANNER 15 ACTON SENIORS' RECREATION CENTRE By ENA GIBSON I apologize for listing Faye Pink by her maiden name, Dawkins in last week's article. That's what comes of being an Actonian for so long. Sorry, Faye. Our weekly 50/50 draw was not won last week so the jack- pot is growing. Get your Toonie in and sign your name for a chance this week. Bid Euchre had three mooners last week. They were Jean Jackson, Francis Hogenbirk and Shirley Hunter. Please come out to our in- terior decorating show on Tuesday, March 30 at 1:30 pm. For $2 you can learn about your decorating styles and the latest tips to enhance your home. Refreshments and door prizes are included. Then, the next day, Wednes- day, Mar. 31, enjoy a trip to Casino Rama and we hope Lady Luck smiles on you. There is still room for more Carpet Bowling participants on Monday afternoons so come out and enjoy the fun. Are you interested in play- ing Bridge or a work out with Tai Chi? Check with the Cen- tre for more information on these worthy activities. The beautiful Easter Egg cen- tre piece is being enjoyed by all who visit the Centre. If you would like to have it in your home, make sure you buy a ticket for the draw on Fri., April 2. Tickets are $1 or 3 for $2. Our St. Patrick's Day Din- ner had a good turnout and thanks to all who braved the terrible storm to enjoy the food. We're sorry the enter- tainment was cancelled but hope you enjoyed Dave's singing! The winners of the draws were Bob Bruce, Elinor Dodds, Lloyd Broostad and the 50/50 draw was won by Ena Gibson. Tickets are now available for our Easter dinner on Tues., April 6 and our Drama Club is practicing hard to present some skits for our entertainment. Buy your tick- ets soon and don't be disappointed. Our next Birthday Tea will be held on Tuesday, April 13 at 2 p.m. and all members with birthdays in April are invited to bring a friend and enjoy cake and ice cream at the Cen- tre. Our card nights are on the third Wednesday of each month, starting at 7:15 p.m. and have been very success- ful. For $3, enjoy an evening of cards with refreshments and prizes. The next two will be on April 21 and May 19. Everyone is getting geared up for our GST (Goods, Serv- ices, Talents) Auction on Saturday, April 17. When you register from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. you will receive a small gift and lunch may be pur- chased during the Auction. While we still will accept do- nations, we wish to thank Acton Home Hardware, Bob and Margaret MacKinnon, Acton Veterinary Clinic, Halton Hills Furniture, Paintin' Friends, Country Re- flections, Acton Monument (Ian Pasmore) and Originals for their donations and sup- port. On April 27, we are having a visit from Gary Barton, Pharmacist, who will be avail- able to answer questions regarding various medica- tions, health problems, alternative medicines, etc. Come at 1:30 p.m. and for $2, get your queries answered. DETOXIFY WITHMILK THISTLE YOUR LIVER WILL THANK YOU In a perfect world, the liver would be able to perform its myriad roles without much help. In today's world, however, we are constantly exposed to a range of toxins that can over-work the liver, impede its function and in extreme cases damage it. Pollution, drugs, cigarette smoke and even moderate amounts of alcohol can all contribute to strain or damage the liver. Diets high in fat and sugar, not to mention high siress levels, also tax this vital organ. Milk thistie is an herb whose active ingredient -- silymarin, protects liver cells from harmful chemicals and from relatively simple digestive problems to severe conditions such as hepatitis, cirrhosis and poisoning. Fortunately there are natural ways to help cleanse the liver of toxins and revitalize it. it acts as an anti-oxidant, mopping up harmful free radicals that can build up in the body as a result of stress and exposure to toxins.
