Acton High School hosted its very first student film festival on Thursday, June 3. The evening fea- tured 12 student films in a variety of genres ranging from black-and-white si- lent films, to epic war films. The audience was hon- oured by the presence of three celebrity judges: Andrew Grant of C.O.R.E. At the end of the evening, the judges pre- sented all the films with special awards. Student di- rector, Jeremy Mersereau, of Exploding Pants Pro- ductions was honoured by several awards, including Best Comedy for his latest film, The Perils-of Instan- taneous Monetary Satisfaction: Mersereau was thrilled to be a part of the event, and said "this is an excel- lent opportunity for any student aspiring to be in the film industry. It gives us a chance to get some real compliments and criticisms." Festival Co-ordinator and MC for the evening, Laura Stevenson com- mented on the difficulty of organizing such an event: "(Mrs. Ross) and I had lit- tle to no experience between us, but all our hard work really came to- gether in the end. Already, several people have re- quested that we make this an annual event." Staff Advisor for the fes- tival, Jennifer Ross, added, "The evening had a won- derful feel. It was an event organized by students for students!" J. Hayward Meeting to introduce CHP's Pat Woode The Christian Heritage Party is holding a meet the candidate night for their Wellington /Halton Hills riding candidate Pat Woode at the Rockwood library on Monday, June 14 at 7:30 pm. Pat Woode has long been a social activist since she graduated from Ryerson University in 1968. Born in 1946, the third daughter of a fam- ily of six children, she was hospitalized for a year at age five with Bul- bar polio on both legs, arms and back. Mrs. Woode's infirmi- ties have not stopped her from being involved in a number of activities. As an advocate for persons with disabilities she was called to deal with many levels of government making a number of pres- entations, writing letters PAT WOODE and lobbying. She sat as a committee member on two previous committees on the revised Ontario Building Code and an advocacy program for the province. In 1988 she focused on the environment issues such as stopping the dumping of garbage in Acton quarries.
