We played Rockwood on May 30 and lost by a score of 9-0. Although the score was not the way we wished we had some great things happen. For instance - Carli Vickery played a super game, she caught a flyball in the field, she pitched great and also played a grounder making an out on first. Courtney Brown, playing third, also snagged a grounder, but just missed the out on first. Erika Kosmack also played a grounder and made the out. : Alicia Grandy was the only one whot got to hit the fast pitching. Unfortunately it was a pop fly. This years' team is very young, includ- ing some Atom aged players, but we didn't go down with- out a fight. On Tuesday, June 1 we played in Ponsonby with the outcome of the score much the same, 14-4 for Ponsonby. They have fast pitching as well, but with practice we will get them. Katelynn Robinson and Ashley Stokman already had the fun of smacking triples, and Erika Kosmack also got a single. It's a start and wait till we get finished. We didn't play very well in the Downey, Harold Kirkness and Kevin Linnard each went two for two. The final between Acton McDonald's and End Zone was a fantastic game with great plays by both teams. The teams entered the sixth inning tied at 10, and . McDonald's failed to score in their half inning, leaving End Zone needing only a single run to win. End Zone got a player on base, but McDonald's made great plays to prevent a run, and the game went to an extra in- ning. Acton went three up and three down in the seventh, and End Zone finally ended it by scoring a run with one out, to win the champion- ship by a score of 11-10. Jasson Lockyer was three for four for McDonald's, Jake Corpe was two for three. Savannah Muir was two for four and scored two runs. Both teams played great baseball, and everyone was proud of their efforts. After 'the games the players re- ceived their trophies and medals, and congratulations on a job well done. TERRIFIC TROUT: Ac- ton's Charlie Sunter snagged this whopping I1- pound Rainbow Trout while fishing in the Credit River at Norval on April 24, the opening day of the fishing season -- the 50th opening season for Sunter, who gave the fish away. -- Submitted photo. field and Ponsonby was hit- ting the ball." With determination from Alicia Lee, Danielle Spear and all the other players we will get them really soon. This team is full of heart, which Coach Mel and I are very excited about. Pitchers Desiray Ebbinge and Carli Vickery will be unhittable by mid season. Our next home game is on June 17, so come on out and cheer the girls on. They'd love it MOSQUITO CHAMPIONS: Acton's KFC won the Mosquito champ eae jionship in the week- end tournament, the team includes, standing left to right: Bradley Reynolds, Travis Brown, Jesse Spurrell, Roger Kirkness, Dylan Bickers Kneeling - Jake Hazzard, Carter Ebbinge, Walter Kirkness, David Bickers. KFC Mosquitos suffers first loss _ The KFC Mosquito hardball team suffered their first loss of the season on May 27, as Kilbride beat Acton 14-10. Kilbride led 13-2 after four innings, but Acton 'scored eight runs in the last two, including six runs in the last inning to make it close. Carter Ebbinge started on the mound for Acton, and gave up 12 runs in his three innings. He was throwing strikes, but unfor- tunately Kilbride were hitting them, and the Acton fielders were struggling to catch them, as many play- ers were playing in new positions. KFC scored three runs in the first off Jeff Longstreet, and added five more in the second off T.J.Baker to put the game out of reach early. Both Nellis pitchers settled down after that, allowing only three more runs over the rest of the game, but Nellis batters could not close the gap. Travis Brown went two for three for KFC and drove in two runs, Roger Kirkness and Carter Ebbinge also drove in two runs each.
