On June | the team travelled to Caledon for a late game and took a 4-1 loss. Already suffering from a lack of play- ers, the team lost two more, one to injury and one with a red card. The girls put up a spirited performance on a rainy night with Kasia Sitarz hitting the net for Acton. Beth Clay- ton and Mel Edwards played energetic games. The following week on June 11, Acton hosted Milton at the high school and cruised to a 4-2 victory over-a de- pleted Milton squad. Striker Sitarz led the way with two goals, winger Denise Barens and striker Larrisa Viel counted single markers. Amanda Schroader and Alica Roza proved their worth as team players by again volunteering a half each in nets. The team played in the North Peel Halton Soccer league. Last week's game against Bolton was cancelled due to school exams. 1A, Nick Dowling 1A. McDonald's Rookies | lose one after six lopsided wins After six consecutive su- per-sized wins to open the 2004 season, Acton McDonald's rookies ran into a tough opponent from Carlisle, and came up on the short end of a 12-11 tally to the visitors. Technical difficulties with the pitching machine forced the coaches into the action to provide the pitch- ing, and rusty arms needed an inning or two to warm up. The Acton team had the lead up going into the fi- nal inning when Carlisle found their collective bat- ting stroke and scored six runs. The visitors hung on for the win as Acton fought back valiantly in their half of the final inning coming Mosquitos The KFC Mosquitos got more great pitching in Greensville on the 15", but so did Greensville, beating KFC 3-2 Travis Brown started for Acton, and allowed a run in the first as Greensville's lead-off batter doubled and stole home. Acton started the game short of fielders which led to the Greensville hit. Brown shut Greensville out after that, ending with one run in three innings on two hits with seven strike- outs. Acton scored one in the third when Bradley Reynolds reached base on a dropped third strike, stole round to third, and was driven home by Walter Kirkness' single. Acton added another in the fourth when Brown led off the in- ning with a triple, and scored on Carter Ebbinge's up one run short. Jillian Mullin was solid at first base making three catches for put-outs.and alertly relayed an over- throw to Jasson Lackyer at second for an apparent out. However, the umpire called the play dead and ordered the runner back tc first base. Jake Corpe alsc _ fielded well at the pitching ~ position. i At bat, Acton had < strong second inning, scor- ing five runs wit consecutive doubles by Neil Campbell, Travis Baker, Justin Pankratz Corpe and Lockyer. Acton will be looking tc revenge their loss as they travel to Carlisle for their next game. : cdged 3-2 double. Acton loaded the bases with one out in the fifth, but could not score. Jesse Spurrell came in to pitch the fourth for Acton, and was overpowering, striking out the side on 11 pitches. Greensville scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie it at two, as a bat- ter walked, advanced to third on a single, and then stole home. Greensville scored with a winner in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases on walks, then with two out scoring on a fourth walk, on aclose pitch on a 3-0 count. Greensville is clearly a good team, but Acton could have won with some better luck. The team's next meeting should be a good game.
