THURSDAY, AUGUST 19, 2004 THE NEW TANNER 13 HARD AT IT: Construction crews were busy replacing fill with clean sand preparatory to starting to pave Rockwood's main street next week. Meanwhile high hoe operators with a bevy of supervisors and observers work on opening the trench along the Manse easement between Main and Carroll Streets to replace the sewer and water service. Barring complications, crews expect to begin the repaving by the end of next week. -- Maggie Petrushevsky photos Break-ins, thefts keep OPP busy on weekend ~ BY MAGGIE PETRUSHEVSKY The New Tanner The Rockwood Rock- ets Soccer Club recently received a big boost from a couple of Rockwood merchants. Coach and vice-presi- dent Gary Smith said the league involves 450 youngsters and is grow- ing by 10 per cent a year. The league functions with two fields and needs at least two more, Smith says. While the munici- pality has prepared two new fields for the group for next year at Eden Mills, those fields aren't ready yet. And when they are, the club will lose two fields at Rockmosa where they currently hold all their games. Smith said the group approached council in the spring to discuss their problems and hope to visit them again in Sep- © tember. Don't forget to visit us at Incorrect assumption in article To the Editor, Re: Approve rezoning despite neighbour s concern The New Tanner, Aug. 5, 2004 I have just read your very well written article about my rezoning application. Unfortunately, there were a couple of quotes from a deputant that are based on incorrect as- sumptions. He suggests that I had broken my word by shifting the road access to the back of my property from the 7" Line to Highway 7 and that this will lead to development on wetland and "... a road which will impact the weltands and come closer to another neighbour's horse training track." Nothing could be further from the truth. Two of the rea- sons we changed the location of the subdivision road were that the road allowance off the 7" Line would have had to cut across a wetland pocket and be situated within less than 10 feet of the horse training track for a length of over 100 metres. With the written support of the owner of the horse training track and the support of the Grand River Conservation Authority staff, we have gone to consider- able expense to purchase an access off Highway 7 so that now the subdivision road won't come any closer than 100 metres of any wetland and will come no closer than 50 _ metres of the horse training track. We have never asked for nor would we ever contem- plate industrial lots on wetlands. The GRCA has rigorous standards (including buffer zones) to prevent any devel- opment on hazard lands (wetlands). Tenclose a copy of my letter in response to the deputant's letter which were prepared for a parallel process at the County level.
