16 THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, AUGUST 19, 2004 Squirt Girls in semis ... Continued from page 15 seven of our girls getting hits. Danielle Spear,Carli Vickery, Katelynn Robinson,Chelsea George and Ashley Stokman all getting sin- gles. Desiray's hit ended up a home run on errors. Great base running Desiray. Courtney Brown carried on with her hitting streak getting two singles. Ashley also got another hit, she got out and that was okay be- cause at least she hit the. ball. Carli Vickery pitched unbelievably again with 15 strikeouts out of an- other possible 18 batters. Other fantastic outs were when Amber Sherwood scooped a grounder on first for the put out. Lindsay Labelio, who has been playing great, caughta fly ball and with a throw from Alicia Lee in right-field to Lindsay at second. Lindsay in turn tagged the runner getting the out. SHUT DOWN ARTHUR Next game at Spm against, WHO? Arthur, again! Carli once again shut them down. Again she got an amazing 18 strikeouts. Carli also got a grounder and a bunt and didn't panic and made the throw to first for the outs. Katrina Harding made an amazing play on second when she knocked the ball down and then picked it up and still made the throw in time, what a play Katrina. Our bats were still alive. Desiray Ebbinge was still hammering out hit after hit with a single, could be and a triple. Courtney Brown's streak was kept going with a single. The whopper hit was Katelynn Robinson's homer. I'm sure they are still looking for that ball. Other girls that hit the ball this game were Alicia Grandy, Courtney, Ashley Stokman and Katrina Harding. And the out- come of the game was Acton 6 - Arthur 3. Rockwood Wins On we go to the semi finals Sun- day morning. We showed More sports on page 19 up Sunday and we have to play against Rockwood. Carli Vickery who was to- tally awesome in the other games pitched once again, getting 14 strikeouts out of 15. Carli was obviously a big part of how we made it so far, but her teammates were ready for any that got a hit. Katrina Harding grabbed a grounder and threw to Amber Sherwood on first for the out. Alicia Lee just in the finals. Anybody who saw those 14 girls back in May would never believe they became a team going into the semi finals of their championship tourna- ment. As coaches we would love to say it was all our doing, but in real- ity it was the girls' heart, soul, and determination that brought them as far as they came. Mel and I have coached three years now and be- lieve me we have never been happier or prouder of our girls, than this past year. Thanks to our sponsors, Purity Life and Denny's Insurance. And a huge thanks to each girl and the parents who backed our team no matter what. registration.
