The clinic offers testing for sexually transmitted diseases, relationship and birth control counselling and low cost sales of birth control devices. It has operated from the Halton Hills Community Support and In- formation (HHCSI) offices on Mill Street for the past two years. Halton's manager of AIDS, STDs and sexual health clinic services, Kate Bannan, said while they take possession of the new rented facilities on September 1, she is unsure how long it would take for them to set up their phones and computers and begin seeing clients, mostly teens. Bannan said they are mov- ing to provide easier access for their clients, and because they needed more space and a "nice pleasant space" for clients. On the four days of the week that the sexual health clinic is not open, Bannan said other Regional employees, includ- ing public health nurses and restaurant inspectors will use the office as a base in the north. Bannan said they've seen a steady increase in clients at the clinic, which is open on Tues- days from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. In 2000 when the clinic opened in Acton they saw 25 clients and that jumped to 233 last year. The clinic is staffed with a public health nurse and a nurse practitioner who is capable to making diagnoses and pre- scribing some medication. A physician is available once a month. Clients can either just drop in for services, or make an appointment. » Cana | New & Unique Natural beauty from ages past Tri 3D Dolphins w/Sterling Silver bale Finders Discoveries Art Gallery 243 Main St N Acton ON L7J1W7 519-853-1675 Email: philristow@execulink.com Hand Carved dian Mammoth Ivory Shipment just arrived $75.00 Collectibles Previriial 6 Thursday, September 9, 2004 rewt 6:00 p.m. Open House 7:00 p.m. Presentations Halton Regional Centre Auditorium 1151 Bronte Road, Oakville The Ministry of Public Infrastructure and Renewal recently released a paper entitled: "Places To Grow: A Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe". We have requested that the Province attend and at this time are awaiting confirmation as to their availability. Please continue to check our website for updated information. Regional Council will consider staff's report on Halton's response to the Ministry at the September 15th Planning & Public Works Committee meeting and at Regional Council on September 22nd. POWDERHOUSE RESTORATION: Work is progress- ing on restoration of the powderhouse in the Limehouse Conservation Area in spite of recent thefts and vandal- ism. It is a significant building in the lime works which are a large part of the Limehouse village heritage. Cost of the restoration is being mostly looked after by a $29,000 Trillium grant. Powderhouse restoration plagued by vandalism To the Editor, Thank you for your ex- cellent coverage of the powderhouse restoration project in the Limehouse Conservation Area. Gerry Inglis and his crew are making significant progress in restoring this historic limestone structure in spite of the recent thefts and vandalism. The motor and belts were removed from the mortar mixer the day after it was brought to the site. Now all mortar is being mixed by hand. Rock pieces being used for filler have also been transported elsewhere. The Trillium sign is badly cracked even though it is behind the fencing and is mounted on a steel pole. All we're trying to do in Limehouse is preserve our cultural heritage before it's lost forever and it is be- coming an unnecessary challenge. Mary Shier, President, Limehouse Kiln Society .
