"So many people have worked on the fair for so long that they know exactly GEORGETOWN CINEMAS 3 Px ER ena Georgetown, Ontario 905-873-1999 PRICES $4.25 Tues, Adult $8.00 Children & Seniors $4.25 ALL MATINEES $4.25 Cort OV ey ed Georgetown Market Place Theatre parking Aa eR e DOWNTOWN ACTON what to do and it is almost second nature to them," said fair board president Jim Pink on Sunday, adding "'it is a bit of a learning curve for me." "The fair for me is like a big special reunion. I get to see lots of people that I don't see that often and get to be part of a great Acton weekend," Pink said, add- ing the past fair presidents have warned him that he won't have a lot of time to see the events and attrac- tions on the actual weekend of September 17, 18 and 19. Pink said that he won't at- tempt to put his own stamp on the fair because large changes are hard to make. "If anything, I can do some tweaking here and there, but my job is really to be a liaison with the peo- ple who know how it is done to try to help them." One of the new events that: Pink said he wants to see is the 4-H pony mounted games show at noon on Sat- urday. The event involves riders competing in 12 categories including the pole bend, a balloon race, sock race and pony express. Each team consists of four riders and four ponies and the event is open to. both 4-H members What's Your Beef? and non-members. "I was told that the pony mounted games are going to be a demonstration sport at the next summer games, so _ it should be very entertain- ing," Pink said, adding they are always looking for new events to add to the tried and true favourites. Pink said thanks to the ex- pertise and hard work of the Knights of Columbus, he has no concerns over fair se- curity in light of the riot following last year's Geor- getown fair. "They know what they are doing and can keep a han- dle on what is going on -- they are like 50 more sets of eyes and ears," Pink said. For Terry Foster, the fair board's second vice-presi- dent, much of his free time over the winter was spent checking out possible per- formers for this year's fair. One entertainer that Fos- ter just had to hire is Silver Elvis, a human robotic Elvis that Foster said "moves and shakes like a Robotic mime" to recorded Elvis music. "] saw him at Buskerfest in Dundas and the crowd just loved him. I sat and watched him for 45 minutes and also watched people walk into trees, poles and other people as_ they couldn't take their eyes off him," Foster said on Sun- day, adding Silver Elvis will be entertaining at various locations throughout the fairgrounds. On Saturday night, Elvis impersonator, Bruce Herron and the band Southbound will share the entertainment tent stage. Herron and Southbound will each stage two shows, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Fos- ter said Herron would present a Memories of Elvis show and Southbound will entertain with country/ southern rock songs. Foster also hired a Charlie Chaplin impersonator to en- tertain the crowds on Friday night, and the same person will be back on Saturday -- billed as Sir John A. MacDonald, a living statue. "Eddie and the Stingrays will be back by popular de- mand to entertain during the Miss Acton pageant on Fri- day night and they are always well received by peo- ple watching the pageant." With a limited budget for entertainment, Foster said the challenge each year is to book acts and bands that will "please everyone" and give people added value for their admission ticket into the fair, which is $7 for adults, and $5 for seniors and youths (13 to 17.)
