Investigating closing of beaches Acton's often-closed Old Beach in Prospect Park is not being ignored as Halton investigates how to clean up beaches in other parts of the region according to Wards 1/2 Regional Councillor Clark Somerville. Halton's 2004 beach monitoring report shows the Old Beach in Prospect Park was closed for 35 per cent of the 80-day swimming season because of unaccept- able levels of bacteria, partially due to droppings from Canada geese. In 2003, the Old Beach TOWN DIGEST was closed for swimming for 60 per cent of the time. Acton's Old Beach was tested 12 times and had four unacceptable results that closed the beach for 28 days in 2004. In 2003, 60 per cent of the samples were un- acceptable. The Boathouse Beach was closed for the entire 2004 season because of consistently high bacteria levels in the past few years. Councillor Somerville said while Halton will part- ner with Burlington to explore in impact of water- fowl on Beachway Park, they will look at all areas of the region.
