The presen- tation made by President Audrey Lee and secretary Sheila Yoblonski included this citation: ; Karin has made valuable contributions to the promo- tion of the horticulture in this community by being a very valuable member of our so- ciety. She joined the directors in 1993 and not long after took over the task of coordinating speakers for the group: due to the fantas- tic job she has done, our membership has grown into the large group that we are and we learned many things. In 1996, she took the Mas- ter Gardener course and succeeded in becoming a master gardener. Since this accomplishment, she always goes above and beyond the call. of duty by answering numerous questions and is available at seemingly all times to all that have horti- culture questions. She is an inspiration to all by showing } aes $999 her gardens at her house (of which there are many and di- verse), and by allowing the society to use them for pot- luck on several occasions. She was a driving force in the creation of gardens that have been created along a pathway that we call the Ro- tary Park pathway. With her broad knowledge of plants, shrubbery and trees, she se- lected and created a design that is now flourishing. Al- lowing use of her gardens for garden tours and for our open garden tours has not gone unnoticed either. "The major fund-raiser (our plant sale) would not be the same either without her help and her knowledge. Many a customer has been helped by her knowledge and I am sure wowed too. Overall, she is extremely. generous with all her help and time." The an- nouncement delivered at Bronte Creek Provincial Park by Natural Resources Min- ister David Ramsey is part of the Province's greenbelt initiative. "This plan will ensure that the environmen- tal legacy Halton has begun will endure for generations to come. We took for- ward to continuing the successful partnership with both the Province and our local municipalities to protect Halton's natu- ral environment," said Savoline. Savoline noted that the Province's identi- fication of 750 acres of government owned lands within the North Oakville area makes a significant contribution to the achievement of a Natural Heritage system that the Prov- ince, Region and Town have collaboratively been identifying through the Inter Agency Review. "We are confident that continued collabo- ration amongst all levels of government will yield positive results for future environmen- tal initiatives in Halton," Savoline said. That Help Keep Halton Beautiful Blue Box Recycling Tips <n. 2 ay You can help reduce litter with some simple steps to prevent your recyclables from taking flight on windy days. Please ensure your blue box materials are placed curbside in a secure manner. * On windy days, place your blue boxes out for collection on the morning of collection day, by 7:00 a.m., instead of the night before. If possible, stack your blue boxes on top of one another to prevent papers from blowing away. Fill boxboard boxes with other boxboard material. Place heavier items on top of lighter items. Flatten and tie large cardboard boxes and place securely underneath or between your recycling boxes.
