THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, DECEMBER 23, 2004 CHOW TIME: Margaret Anderson findsthe food so tempting at the Christmas dinner she had to taste some before she gats to her table. Also enjoying the dinner are Isabel Nichols and Shirley Broostad There were approximately 50 people who went on the tour of lights and had a won- derful time. They viewed the homes in Acton before going off to Georgetown and Nor- val. All the homes were most impressive, but there is one road in Norval that is always spectacular, and many homes have animated light displays. The two volunteer bus driv- ers Wayne Stewart (a centre member) and Pat Graham did an excellent job, and our thanks to them and Ted Tyler (Tyler Transport) for donat- ing the two buses. Everyone returned to the Centre to warm up and enjoy the awe- some array of very special treats (one person said it was a feast), thanks to Margaret Dodgson (Social Committee chairperson). A wonderful way to finish the evening. Donna tells me she is already planning to invite all seniors in the area, and their caregiv- ers again next year. Seven seniors with the Fit and Fun Wednesday exercise group had a great time at the video taping of the Quality Daily Fitness resource com- ing out in early 2005, joining 10 of the student leaders and their teacher Marie Burland at Acton's Robert Little School for the taping. There are five different exercises included in the program, but the Acton seniors only participated in one called "The Hustle". The Everybody Move resource will include activities that encourage active participa- tion to help students improve their fitness, and seniors to maintain and improve their fitness levels. The resource will contain a book, a CD with music to get started and a DVD showing various DINNER TIME: Eileen Dix (Board member) passing the time of day with some of the seniors at the Christmas dinner recently. The entertainment committee did a great job of decorating and every one took home their hand crafted napkin ring holder as a sou- venir. -- Julie Conroy ACTON SENIORS' RECREATION CENTRE BY JULIE CONROY routines, and aerobic moves. Several of our members at- tended Robert Little and reminisced about the school as they were leaving while they checked out the old pho- tos of themselves and their classmates in the hall. Ruth tells me n Bid Euchre there was only one mooner, Shirley Hunter. In Carpet Bowling Eileen informs me although her team tried hard to catch up they lost 3-10 to Walters' team. Their next game is Jan. 3, 2005. There were four tables for the Eu- chre Wednesday evening and SE OU ECS ES The Bombardier' ATV Youth Models and the Ski-Doo Mini 2. I am sure it will have lots of great food and good com- pany as.usual. Get your ticket early. Don't forget the Centre will be closed from Friday, December 24 until January 3, 2005. The very popular miniature show will be revisiting us on Tuesday, January 18 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The Omega Club is presenting their Doll House miniature show. Every- one who saw it last year raved about it. Maybe you saw the article in The Toronto Star last week about miniatures? It has become a very popular hobby. $2.00 admission and coffee will be served. Everyone is invited to see this wonderful exhibit. The committee working on Christmas gifts for the two families in Acton (recom- mended by HHSCI) was very pleased with the response to their plea for gifts and other articles to make Christmas a little happier. They collected over $100 in Canadian Tire money which was used to purchase gifts and other items for the children. They would like to thank everyone who was so generous. Eileen Dix asked me to remind everyone who hasn't done so to renew-their mem- bership. Please renew yours as soon as possible; it would save Eileen a lot of phone calls in the New Year. They should be renewed each year by January and cost $15 per person. Anyone 55 years of age and older is eligible to join. A bargain when the Cen- tre has so much to offer. Several of our members are in the hospital, and I hope all who are sick get well soon, and are able to spend time with their families and friends over the holiday season. I would like to wish everyone on behalf of the Acton Seniors Centre a Happy Christmas and a safe and healthy New Year. 'THE see fannec.... Lrp. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who =. tas contributed in making our hometown newspaper such a success!
