THURSDAY, DECEMBER 23, 2004 THE NEW TANNER 27 Tanner Peewees chalk up three wins this week By Gwyneth Cheeseman Acton Tanners Peewee AE team, (R&M Construc- tion), set up an exhibition game against a Select Pee- wee team from Bolton on Tuesday, December 14 and took a 4-1 win. With help from Jesse Spurrell, Jonathon Porty was the first to find a way past the Bolton goalie. Jona- thon waited patiently for the goalie to commit, and then dumped the puck into the back of the net. After a barrage of shots and much persistence, Rog- SS 8SSSESS 6695666686 er Kirkness took a pass from Aaron Hillier. Jonathon cathe from the side of the net to chalk up the second goal for Acton. Roger Kirkness and Aaron Hillier teamed up once again, for another goal to bring the scoring to 3 to 1. Roger dug the puck out from the feet of Aaron and netted a shot to the far side of the goalie. After maintaining pos- session in the Acton zone, Bolton was rewarded with their lone goal of the game. Possession of the puck was quickly returned to Acton when Stefan Smelsky scored the final goal for Acton with Roger Kirkness drawing the assist to end the game 4 to 1 for Acton. DECEMBER 18, 2004 Saturday, December 18, the Acton Tanners Peewee AE team, played a lacklus- tre game against an equally tired Milton team and still won 2-1. Milton opened up the scoring halfway through the first period when Acton failed to clear the puck over the blue line. It wasn't until the second period that Acton was able to get on the score board. Travis Brown's see- ing eye shot found the top shelf of the net off a terrific pass from Chris Mah. Although having a player in the penalty box is usu- ally seen as negative, James Begg managed to find the silver lining. On his way out of the box, he took a pass up the ice from Jesse Mortensen and pocketed the second goal for Acton. Acton came away with a2 to 1 win against a normally strong Milton team. Acton dominated the game but it was Hespeler that opened up the scoring early in the first period. That would be the last Hespeler saw of the inside of the net as Acton started to apply pressure to the Hespeler defense. : Roger Kirkness took a chance with a sharp angled shot after James Begg tossed him the puck from the side of the net. Roger's shot found the far side of the net to see Acton tie up the game. Acton's determination to win shone through when Roger Kirkness, once again, took control of the puck in the third period to put Acton ahead 2 to 1. Roger slipped the puck, unassisted, past an unsuspecting Hespeler goalie for the go-ahead goal. Although the game started to geta little rough, the Acton players kept the game well in check.
