16 THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2005 35th Annual Hockey Tournament By FRANCES NIBLOCK The New Tanner Good hockey, good food and large crowds helped make Acton's 35th annual Peewee hockey tournament a success as 22 teams from Southern Ontario faced off in what is billed as the oldest Peewee tournament in Ontario. On Sunday, Acton House League Association presi- dent Paul Chadwick said he was pleased with the com- plaint-free tournament, and thanked the many volunteers who helped make it happen, including the Acton Kinsmen who ran a barbecue on Satur- day and Sunday. To fill out the tournament roster, the six Acton House League Peewee teams were invited to play and although each team lost their first game with a visiting challenger, Chadwick disagreed with the Suggestion that they had a poor showing. "I wouldn't say it was a poor showing from the House league teams. They all en- joyed themselves; we had a good turnout and we haven't had any complaints -- the teams enjoyed themselves an¢,that is the whole reason for doing this," Chadwick said, adding the lack of ice time for House League team practices is a large factor in the calibre of hockey they play. N ACTON Acton Baseball offers more in 2005 The Acton Minor Ball Asso- ciation is pleased to announce a great new plan for baseball in 2005. Acton has joined with the Georgetown Baseball Association to combine sched- ules for the new season. Acton's teams will play all their home games in Acton, and have away games in Acton and Georgetown. This is a big improvement over previous years, when Acton teams trav- Ache iS scter' By mail - sce brochure for d ee ' a OTs ly tote a Vga aise elled as far as Hamilton for away games. This makes base- ball the only summer sport for Acton players where home games are in Acton, and away games are all in Halton Hills. In addition, Acton baseball players will be able to play on combined select teams with Georgetown players to play in some weekend tournaments, an option that was not previ- ously available in Acton. Acton Minor Ball also of- fers softball teams for girls, these teams are unaffected by the new baseball arrange- ment with Georgetown. For more informa- tion about Acton summer baseball, log onto Wwww.actonminorball.com, call 853-4756, or visit the registration booth at Acton Arena on Saturday, February 12 from 8 a.m. until noon. yn CPi eleven tt
