THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2005 THE NEW TANNER 17 Tanners lose to Hespeler 4-3 Hespeler edged the Acton Tanner R&M Construction AE Peewee squad 4-3 in a match on January 31. Acton looked sharp early in the first period, going ahead 1-0. On a powerplay, John White dumped one past the Hespeler goalie with help from Aaron Hillier and Ac- dan Flynn. Unfortunately, the lead was short lived as Hespeler came back with a quick goal to tie things up with a screen shot to the net. Hespeler's second goak was unearned as it deflected off an Acton player in front of the Acton net. Near the end of the CONSOLATION FINAL: Acton House League Peewee team, R&M Construction, downed Acton Subway 4-2 to take the consolation final at the 35th annual Peewee hockey tournament in Acton on the weekend. -- Submitted photo second period, with Acton's defence tiring, Hespeler put a third shot into the net mak- ing it ringing the score 3-1. Hespeler's fourth and final goal came in the third period when Hespeler dug the puck out from the front goalie and dumped it high into the net. This is when Acton came alive - not wanting to go down without a fight, Brandan Lockyer took a bullet shot from the blue line that appeared to go in under the cross bar. The ref- eree waved it off but Jesse Spurrell tipped it back into the net to be sure it counted for Acton's second goal. Great persistence by the Tan- ners proved fruitful as, with a timely pass from Locky- er, marked up yet another well-earned goal for Acton. Acton kept the pressure on Hespeler in the final seconds of the game, resulting in a few unsportsmanlike moves by a few of the Hespeler players. One win and two loses for Atom AE Tanners By Monica-Galway The Acton Tanners Atom squad got a rough ride from Fergus in a series of games last week - coming away with a win and two losses. Back in Fergus on Mon- day night, Acton was ready and although Fergus opened the scoring in the first, Acton responded with a goal from Vanderachen, assisted by Ebbinge and Wells. Wells came back to make it 3-2 as Acton inched their way back into the game with assists from Billy Mowat and Ebbinge. Then Mowat, frustrated by the roughing going on in the game, took a minor for hooking. Vanderachen scored his second goal of the night with help from Duval and Wells, but it just wasn't enough. Mason Galway took a seat for two for trip- ping and Acton had to settle for a 6-3 loss. "| tried everything to help my son with school. | wish we'd fir tried Sylvan st."
