Jim Stroud 519-853-4383 CONSTABLE GEORGE'S CORNER With Village Constable Garry George Power of Attorney Commonly Asked Questions part VI Is my attorney entitled to payment? Your attorney is entitled to payment unless you state otherwise in you Continuing Power of Attorney. Con- sult a lawyer about the payment your attorney can re- ceive. If you want to set the amount yourself or you don't want your attorney to be paid at all, write this in the document. What happens if I don't have a Continuing Power of Attorney for Property and I become mentally incapable of managing my property? One of several things could happen: Some of your property, for example, some pensions and social benefits could be managed informally by friends or relatives. Someone could go to court and ask to be appointed to manage your property formally as your "Guardian of Property" Or The Office of Public Guardian and Trustee could be appointed to manage your property. This is known as a "statutory guardianship". While you are mentally capable, it is wise to choose someone you trust to manage your property if the need arises. A Continuing Power of Attorney for property helps protect your interests and safeguard what is yours. Where can I get a form(s) for Power of Attorney for Personal Care or Continuing Power of Attor- ney for Property? A lawyer can prepare a form with you. Or you can use the form published by the Office of the Public Guard- ianship and Trustee. To order a copy, call toll-free 1- 800-366-0335. Whether you use the form provided by the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee or another form, it is a good idea to consult a lawyer or community legal worker before appointing an attorney. You may also want to consult your doctor, or health care practitio- ner, about health and treatment instructions before preparing your Power of Attorney. Can I cancel my Power of Attorney for personal Care or my Continuing Power of Attorney for Property? Yes. As long as you are mentally capable of making a Power of Attorney, you can take it back (cancel or revoke it). To do so, state in writing that you revoke it. Two people must witness you sign the statement. Both these people must be with you when you sign. Certain individuals cannot be witnesses to your signature, for example: your attorney, your attorney's spouse, your child or anyone under the age of 18 years. It is a good idea to give a copy of the revocation to anyone who has seen or has a copy of the original Power of Attorney. If you can, get the original Power of Attorney back and destroy it. If you would like further information on Power of Attorney, stop in at the Acton Village Constables of- fice and speak with the Village Constable Cst. Arthur notches win win over PeeWee Tanners in playoff Acton Tanners AE PeeWee team lost a 5-3 decision to Arthur in a Tri-County playoff game Feb. 27 but the score did not reflect the effort put out by the Acton squad. , It was Acton that opened up the scoring at 0:29 of the first period as Chris Mah hustled for the puck beating a very quick Arthur forward to it. Chris passed the puck up the ice onto the stick of Jesse Spurrell who then took it the rest of the way up the ice. Jesse fired a great shot past the Arthur goalie netting the first goal for Acton. During the second pe- riod, Acton misplayed the puck allowing Arthur to tie up the game. Not long after the Arthur goal, Roger Kirkness had an amazing backhanded shot putting the second goal on the board for Acton to go ahead for the second time. Stefan Smelsky and Travis Brown both drew assists. With less than 5 minutes to go in the second period, Arthur tied up the game again when Acton had trou- ble clearing the puck out of their zone. Towards the end of the second period, Acton seemed to run out of steam and Arthur, once again, took advantage and popped in their first go- ahead goal. Arthur went on to put two more goals up on the board in the third period to bring the score to 5-2. It stayed that way until the final min- ute of the game when Acton had one last burst of energy. John White, from AP play- er, Cole Fricker, and Tanner Brandan Lockyer, tucked a nice shot in past the Arthur goalie for the third Acton goal of the game bringing the final score to 5-3. Acton played a great game against a hard-hit- ting Arthur team, but was unable to sustain the same level of play for all three periods.
