Whether physical or emotional, abuse attacks a child's self-esteem and emotional development, leaving long-term emotional trauma and pain. You can help prevent child abuse by being a nurturing parent or caregiver. By letting children know they are special, competent and loved, you can help them develop positive self-images and happier futures. If you feel overwhelmed, angry or frustrated as a parent, help is out there for you. Look in your area for support groups and services, or talk to a trusted friend, family member, pastor or doctor about what you can do to protect and support your child. If we all do our part to prevent child abuse, we'll get to the heart of the matter. 130 Guelph St.873-2476 Expires August 9, 2002 Does not include new releases. 319 Guelph St. (905) 873-8505 • Free Membership • Free Popcorn (While You Browse) • OPEN DAILY 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 a.m. 3 4 MOVIES NIGHTS $5. "Our goal is to teach the kids about different facets of the performing arts in an environment that is fun and encouraging," said Patrick Timney, the camp's coordinator and pastor of Worship and Outreach at the church. "They learn quickly as they put together dance routines and are put through their paces that, although the performing arts are fun and rewarding, it also requires hard work." Over the week, August 12 to 16, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the children (ages 8-15), receive instruction in a variety of disciplines: drama, singing, creative movement/ dance and music. Each of the instructors has had professional experience in the disciplines they teach. At the end of the week the kids have the opportunity to "strut their stuff" to their families and friends in a performance showcasing their talent. "It is great to watch the kids develop through the week, to see them become each other's biggest supporters," said Lori Lapierre, the camp's dance instructor and also a national tap dance champion. "They have so much energy and enthusiasm, sometimes it's hard to keep up." There is still some space available, so for more information or a registration package call the office of the Georgetown Alliance Church at 905-873-0249. The cost is $125 per child. The church is located at 290 Main St. S. August 12-16 Calling all men! Georgetown Globe Productions is still looking for men of all ages for their fall production of Evita.
