Before you start, think about it: every drag you take screws up your body. Smoking can cause permanent damage to your body. Once a person starts, it becomes extremely tough to quit. And did we mention all that cash you'll be blowing in the process? So, if you're tempted to start, ask yourself, "Is it worth it?" Page 4 Acton/Georgetown - Friday, August 2, 2002 The Town of Halton Hills will make a greater attempt to communicate the rules to visiting relatives of those buried in town cemeteries. Director of Recreation and Parks Terry Alyman announced the measure at July's council meeting. The town has two cemeteries, Greenwood on King St. in Georgetown and Fairview on Cobblehill Rd. in Acton. "By all means we can increase our efforts to communicate to those people who we have registered with us, as long as it's recognized we that we may not necessarily reach everyone who visits the cemetery," he said. The move was prompted by remarks by Councillor Clark Somerville who said a number of constituents are complaining about town staff removing personal effects from plots. Alyman said there has been an increase in the number and types of personal effects that is drawing the complaints of other visitors to the cemetery. To address that, the town is now requiring visitors to adhere to the town's cemetery bylaw whereas in the past they've given visitors a certain latitude. Personal effects is listed among the many types of ornamentation that is not allowed placed on plots because they can create a hindrance for maintenance, disturb adjacent lots (or other visitors), can be used to vandalize the cemetery and deter from the overall aesthetics of the cemetery. Alyman pointed out relatives are also given a copy of the bylaw when the plot is purchased. As well, last year the town published a users' guide on cemetery visiting dos and don'ts and it's available at the Recreation and Parks Department in the Civic Centre. --By Cynthia Gamble, staff writer The Human Resource Centre of Canada for Students in Georgetown will close its doors for the season next Friday (Aug. 9). A total of 120 students were placed in jobs in the area through the centre this summer and more than 1,000 employers and students were helped with their employment needs. "The summer went extremely well," said summer employment officer Adrianna Stuart- Hagge. "We helped a large number of students with their job searches, and we also counseled them on things like resume and cover letter writing, interview techniques, employment standards and wage rates." The Centre is to reopen next summer. After personal effects removed Town to inform public on cemetery rules Student centre to close
