Letters to the editor Cancer patient praises CAS-hh Dear editor, I felt it was important to write this letter to you so that the residents of Georgetown could be aware of what a wonderful organization Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills (CAS-hh) is. I was diagnosed with cancer two and a half years ago, and have found the services of CAS-hh to be phenomenal. When I was first diagnosed I was quite upset that there wasn't a local chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society, and therefore no local resource for me to utilize. I found out about CAS-hh at the Fall Fair in 2003. I took the information right away and made the call I needed to make. I have to tell you that the ladies who run CAS-hh have the biggest hearts. The volunteers at CAS-hh are so friendly and upbeat. Unfortunately, I had to utilize the services of the volunteer drivers in January 2005. Every single driver I had always had a smile on his or her face. The conversation was always grand and the laughs were plenty. This year has been a particularly difficult one for me with respect to the cancer, but CAS-hh has been there for me every step of the way. The ladies at CAS-hh keep in touch with me every week whether it be via e-mail or the phone just to make sure that I am still smiling and laughing, and if I'm not they make sure I am. Sheila constantly cracks her jokes and I can't help but laugh because she is such a funny lady. Just when I thought that CAS-hh couldn't be anymore helpful, or kind to me, they made a move that is just unforgettable. It left my entire family in awe. The people at CAS-hh and one very special volunteer made my Christmas even more magical than it could have ever been. A kind volunteer offered his services to cook Christmas dinner for my family. Words cannot express the gratitude and warm fuzzies that this action brought to my family's hearts. Tears of joy were definitely shed. For the many residents who do not know what CAS-hh is, please let me tell you. CAS-hh is an organization that provides assistance to many cancer-stricken patients in Halton Hills. They provide wigs, wheelchairs, an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, and many many volunteers to drive patients to and from their appointments to the various cancer treatment centres in southern Ontario (Hamilton, Mississauga, Kitchener, Princess Margaret, and that's just to name a few). I try my best to repay CAS-hh with their kindness by raising funds in the annual Crop for Cancer, and while I have raised almost $2,000 in the last two years, I just feel it's not enough. I don't think I can ever match their kindness. I pray that no one has to utilize the services of CAS-hh, but should the need arise, they are definitely a great organization. Thank you very much CAS-hh Marsha Vettese, Georgetown
