Is our town Hockeyville? Town bids to win CBC reality show EAMONN MAHER Staff Writer Organizers were a little disappointed with the turnout for Sunday's giant road hockey game on Main Street, but their optimism about Georgetown's bid to be named Hockeyville Canada hasn't waned. Approximately 300 enthusiastic local residents turned out Sunday morning, dressed mostly in Raider red and black, to play a 15-minute contest in the heart of the downtown. It was part of a campaign struck up recently by the Georgetown Minor Hockey Association and the Hockey Heritage Council to win an upcoming reality TV show contest produced by the CBC and sponsored by Kraft. A new look It's been said "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but we believe if we can make something better, then why not do it? Despite recently being named a finalist for the upcoming Ontario Community Newspapers Association's General Excellence Award, we believe it was simply time to give The Independent & Free Press a makeover-- starting with today's edition. We wanted to give you, our readers, a cleaner, easier-to-read paper so we've changed headline and text fonts and adopted a new masthead-- among other things. Changes at our press operation should also enhance the quality of the printing. We hope you like the new look.
