Several families interested in Habitat home Two dozen families met with Habitat for Humanity Halton representatives at a special meeting Wednesday night to apply to buy one of the three houses that Habitat will build in Georgetown in 2007. Another Family Information meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 11, 10 a.m. at St. Andrew's United Church, 89 Mountainview Rd. Interested families whose income is below the poverty line but have a steady income and positive work history are asked to attend this information session to learn about how Habitat selects partner families. Families that attend will be provided application forms at the end of each session. Interested families are requested to register by calling Habitat for Humanity toll free at 1-866-3144344. "We have partnered with one family for the house on Dayfoot Drive that starts this spring, and tonight we started to accept applications from families interested in applying for the three houses we will build in 2007," said Kathrin Delutis, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Halton. "The Town of Halton Hills gave us the opportunity to purchase three building lots (on John St.)-- now we have the difficult task of selecting the families we will partner with." At the information session, Habitat representatives will explain the family selection criteria. To be eligible, the family must be living below the poverty line for Halton, be willing to partner with Habitat, and live in substandard housing or be paying too high a percentage of their income on housing. "The selected families will partner with Habitat to help build the house," said Delutis. "Families will purchase the house from Habitat after completing 500 hours of sweat equity, and repay a long-term, zero interest mortgage." Habitat is looking for volunteers to assist with the Dayfoot Dr. build. Visit www.habitathalton.ca or call the office 1-866-314-4344 to find out how to get involved or make a donation.
