Globe, GLT members win THEA awards Alison Salinas and Jane Adair Special to The IFP The 30th Annual Association of Community Theatres - Central Ontario (ACT-CO) Thea Awards Gala was held this past Saturday in Concord. These awards are held to honour the hard work and dedication of many volunteers who help make the magic of community theatre happen across Central Ontario. Both Georgetown Globe Productions and Georgetown Little Theatre, who had entered shows into the adjudication process, received nominations proving that you don't have to leave your backyard for award-winning theatre. Georgetown Globe Productions entered their fall production of big, The Musical against 10 other musical productions. The musical garnered three nominations, one for Best Choreographer for Tia Mathieson, one for Best Set Design for in a Musical for Scott Carmichael as Josh Baskin. The show won an Adjudicator's Award for Stage Management for Katrina Moore. Katrina is currently working on Globe's spring show, Once Upon A Mattress (the story of The Princess and the Pea), which opens at the John Elliott Theatre on Thursday, May 4. Georgetown Little Theatre entered two of their shows into the comedy category against 18 others. The Dining Room received a nomination for Best Lighting for Cat Heaven. The Importance of Being Earnest received a nomination for David Brock as Algernon Moncrieff for the Best Performance of a Male in a Leading Role in a Comedy and Cat Heaven won an Adjudicator's Award for Dynamic Set Design. Georgetown Little Theatre's next show, The Perils of Persephone opens at the John Elliott Theatre on Thursday, April 20. Tickets for both groups' spring shows Globe's Katrina Moore won an Adjudicator's Award for Stage Management for big, The Musical.
