Clean Up Day goes tomorrow "Let's get this place cleaned up" is the message the Town is sending out to Halton Hills residents. Halton Hills Sixth Annual Community Clean Up Day will be held tomorrow (Saturday). Volunteers will set out to clean up litter in areas that are personally significant to them. In the past, volunteers have collected "mountains" of trash from streets, parks, trails and rural roads. The removal of litter from recreational and rural areas delivers a face-lift to Halton Hills everyone can appreciate. "I drive around after and notice a difference. It makes me proud of the people involved," said Jane Fogal, Wards 3 and 4 Councillor. Arrangements can be made by the Town and registered groups to have the collected litter picked up. Accumulated trash can also be dropped off at the Town Works Yard on April 22 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Refreshments will be available courtesy of Tim Hortons. Individuals, families and organizations wishing to participate in the clean up are encouraged to contact the Town Public Works Department at 905-873-2601 ext. 2610 to register and for further information. Portable sign users in rural areas to get break Town enforcement officers will cease to enforce the bylaw related to portable signs within agricultural or rural zones pending a completed review by a regional committee next year. Last year, a working group with representatives from Halton Hills, Milton, Oakville, Burlington and Halton Region was set up to examine the over-lapping jurisdictions of bylaws including the sign bylaw. Inconsistencies between the Town's bylaw and others, including the Niagara Escarpment Commission and Ministry of Transportation, have been found. Enforcement of and issuing permits for permanent signs will continue.
