Acton Seniors begin plans for fundraising walkathon JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre Members of the Bruce Trail Association, Maureen Smith and Heinz Rusche, made a very interesting presentation at the centre. Those who haven't experienced walking the trails will most likely do so in the near future. It is wonderful to have dedicated people keeping the trails well marked and in top notch condition. Ruth Burke was the only Mooner at last week's Thursday afternoon Euchre. The Dragon dart team overwhelmed the point deficient Knights. Even though the Knights tried hard, they couldn't stand the pace. The Knights are desperate for more dart players-- expert or not-- especially with the warmer weather and the tendency of players to `abandon ship' for the golf course. Mark Saturday, May 27 on your calendar as there will be a walkathon for the centre. How can you help? Walk in the event, or volunteer to hand out water and snacks or, most important, sponsor someone. Pledge sheets are available at the centre. Walkathon participants will have their own pledge sheets. There will be two routes: one in the park which is fairly flat, and one more vigorous. Both should take about an hour. Some of the Acton Seniors Hiking Club members will be participating as well as walking around Guelph Lake the next day in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walkathon. According to Margaret Neilson, Betty Blain's Black team managed to beat Gerry Marjerrison's Brown team 19-13. The Carpet Bowlers welcomed Betty back from Panama City Beach. With Betty back, the Black team hopes to start winning again. The Hearing Clinic on Tuesday, April 25 at 1:30 p.m. should be very interesting to anyone who has a hearing loss problem, or is related to someone who has. Even if your hearing is perfect, it will be interesting to find out what options are available when your hearing does start to deteriorate. Representatives from Harold K. Arnold Hearing Aids Limited will discuss the different tools available to help make dealing with hearing loss easier. Everyone is invited. There are still plenty of newsletters available at the front desk. Ask for help if you can't find yours. It will keep you updated on activities at the Centre for May and June. There is a trip planned to Blue Heron Casino for Wednesday, May 3. Not only will there be three hours to spend at the casino, but the price also includes a buffet lunch, which is reputed to be the best meal at any casino. There will also be a stop at the Ocala Winery and White Feather Country Craft Store. If you are interested, check with the travel desk on Monday or Friday mornings. It's nice to see many of the snowbirds returning home after flying to warmer places for the winter. Welcome back everyone! Were you one of the organized people who thought ahead and renewed your membership before leaving? If not, now is the time to do so. As you know, you must be a paid member to participate in many of the events at the centre.
