Active Challenge set to launch The Town of Halton Hills will launch its annual eight-week Spring Active Living Challenge, Monday, May 1 to support its goal of increasing physical activity in residents by 10 per cent by 2010. The new campaign is "All About Attitude...Yours!" and provides a series of campaign messages promoting the benefits of incorporating physical activities into residents' daily lives. "It is vital for residents to realize the benefits of active living, not only for themselves, but also for the community at large," said Aaron Matthews, Recreation Supervisor of Community Development for Recreation and Parks. "Participation in any type of physical activity helps to build strong families and ultimately, stronger communities." Activities can range from just about anything-- mowing the lawn, bowling, walking, jogging or joining organized sports. The choice of activity is up to each person and the Town is committed to helping residents keep track of their progress, including any increase in fitness level. Interested residents are asked to pick up an activity log at any Town facility or access the log on-line at www.haltonhills.ca by clicking on the Active Living logo. The activity log questionnaire assesses an individual's current level of activity and requires participants to record and submit any physical activities for each week of the challenge. By logging activity each week, it allows participants to compare their activity levels with the greater community, and also enables the Town to measure how close Halton Hills is to reaching its goal for 2010. The Town provides participants with regular website updates each Wednesday. For more information on the 8week Spring Challenge, call 905873-2601 ext. 2262 or e-mail aaronm@haltonhills.ca.
