Acton/Georgetown, Friday, May 26, 2006 3 Police still searching for hit-and-run driver Teacher charged with `minor' assault on girl in classroom A Peel District School Board special needs elementary teacher who lives in Georgetown is facing assault charges after a nine-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted at Burnt Elm School in Brampton. A Peel Regional Police spokesperson said the assaults are alleged to have occurred in the classroom in April and are considered "minor". Charged with two counts of assault is Mary Dayfoot, 53. Dayfoot is to appear in Brampton court on June 19. Halton Police continue to hunt for the driver of a red or burgundy pickup truck they believe struck a cyclist in a hit and run accident at Guelph St. and Normandy Blvd. last Friday evening (May 19). Police report shortly after 11 p.m., Nancy Houle, 19, of Georgetown was cycling when she was struck by a vehicle in the intersection. Wednesday's Independent & Free Press report incorrectly stated the time of the accident. The driver of the vehicle didn't stop at the scene leaving the seriously injured woman lying on the road. A pedestrian walking in the area noticed the injured cyclist and called 911. Houle was taken to Georgetown Hospital and later transferred to Sunnybrook Hospital where she was treated for serious head, leg and hip injuries. She is expected to make a full recovery. Witnesses told police a large red pickup truck was seen driving erratically in the area around the time of the collision. It was described as a newer-style red or burgundy Ford F-150 pickup truck with a two-door extended cab with small rear "wing" style rear doors, silver rocker panels and tinted windows. The suspect vehicle may have damage to the front end, which could be concentrated near the lower portion of the bumper and on the undercarriage. Police would like to examine the truck, which they call a "vehicle of interest." "Although we are interested in locating the pick-up truck, we still are looking to the public to report any vehicles with fresh damage to the front bumper and/or grill area,"' said Det. Const. Richard Solecki. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Solecki of the Regional Traffic Bureau at 905-8785511 ext. 5108 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). 1999 PONTIAC TRANSPORT Fully Loaded 88,000km SUNNY MOTORS WARRANTY /FINANCING AVAILABLE 323 QUEEN STREET, ACTON 519-853-9012 Mon. - Fri. 3 pm - 9 pm, Sat. 9 - 6 pm Your Personalized body transformation COUNTRY SMITH PREMIUM ICE CREAM Come in have an ice cream - check out our selection of Pre-owned Vehicles, New Mini Bikes or take a stroll through historic Norval Park.
