Summer Safety Blitz set for Saturday at SportsPlex The fifth annual Summer Safety Blitz hosted by the Halton Hills Risk Watch Coalition will be held Saturday (June 10). The blitz, which will include car seat inspection clinics, will be held at Mold-Masters SportsPlex at 221 Guelph St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. "The blitz is used as a venue to raise the level of awareness amongst our children and parents about injury prevention," said Halton Hills fire safety technician David Bouskill. "A sample of components include a car seat clinic, bike rodeo, helmet-fitting clinic, water safety, fire and burn prevention, poisoning and choking prevention." "Risk Watch is an educational initiative with age-appropriate curriculum that has been developed for all elementary school grades," said fire safety specialist David Ford. "This is an excellent opportunity to forward some very helpful information to a lot of people at one time." This year's event will include an additional car seat inspection clinic by appointment only at the fire department headquarters station located at 53 Maple Ave. There will also be a car seat clinic at Mold-Masters for the drop-in visitors. There will be three draws for bicycles with helmets as well as draws for two life jackets as part of the water safety awareness component of Risk Watch. The event will also include a free hot dog barbecue, cold drinks and giveaways compliments of Ray Johnson & Associates Inc. and Cooperators Insurance. Risk Watch is an injury prevention program developed and implemented for children in preschool through Grade 8.
