Oooohhhh Baby! JUDITH-ANNE KOLU Upper Credit Humane Society A few weeks ago, I heard that we had rescued two dogs from abysmal circumstances; these two Mastiff-type dogs had been sequestered in a small space and their kennel was a van-- their diet was less than desirable and consisted of castoffs of dubious content. Our agents approached with caution but all was well, they need not have feared Goober and Baby (as we called them) were indeed large and barking, but their sound belied they were "angels in disguise". Once settled at the UCHS Shelter both animals were declared young and in good health, and were housed together because we learned that all they had had in the world were each other-- brother and sister left alone in a intolerable situation. Days past and they settled easily into Shelter life, which was rich in stimulation, food and care, love and exercise and was a far, far cry from the miserable circumstances from which they had been rescued. But then it happened....Goober ,who was indeed handsome in his nice golden coat, was adopted but the family did not have the room for two dogs. We will never forget Baby's face and voice as Goober left her-- it was heartrending-- Pet of the Month Book boys Elliot, 5, and Ethan Arbuthnot, 8, peer through books at the fundraising Upper Credit Humane Society book sale that was held at the Georgetown Market Place on the weekend. Stonecroft Inn is located on Trafalgar Rd. North. but what an adaptable girl she is as she survived to tell the tale so to speak. Baby was named by the staff and volunteers because despite her size she is a baby, so affectionate, so loving, so sweet of demeanour. Baby, who had had no training has done amazingly well. She is clean in her kennel indoors and has a penchant for men on two legs. She likes the ladies too, but she definitely likes to be noticed by men! Baby thrives on attention (something she obviously had little of before rescue) and pushes her big head gently against you to make sure you know she is there and oh joy, contact might be made! How she enjoys her exercise, running, playing with companions of her choice, favouring the larger dogs over the little ones, who she appears to think are furry toys she can play with but for real play she likes someone she can relate to. She is a quiet girl for the most part, barking only when necessary. This sweet affectionate girl is squirming in her photo in what looks like a ballet pose, she wanted to go play but is smiling for the camera-- all decked out in her black and white coat with such pretty markings. We hope Baby can find a permanent home soon in a loving family who realize that this lively, loving, girl truly deserves a shot at being part of a human "pack". Baby appears to trust and love people in general-- showing only a joyous, generous spirit with little second thoughts to her early beginnings. If you think you could be Baby's new "pack" please call UCHS at 519-833-2287 to have a meet and greet.
