Region hosts public meeting Tuesday Halton Region is holding a public meeting in Halton Hills Cultural Centre's Gallery on Tuesday, June 20 where residents can help Halton form its future. Halton staff are working on the Durable Halton Plan, which will develop the directions Halton will take when determining the future land use and structure of the region. It's Halton's answer the requirements of Provincial plans, such as the Proposed Provincial Places To Grow Plan, the Greenbelt Plan, and the 2005 Provincial Policy Statement- all which require that Halton double its existing population and employment by 2031. Issues examined include: · What kind of role will agriculture play in Halton? · How can we protect our Natural Heritage System? · What would intensification of our communities look like? · How and when should we expand our urban boundaries? The meeting begins with an open house at 6:30 p.m., with a presentation beginning at 7 p.m., followed by a question and answer session and opportunity for feedback. Other meetings are scheduled on Wednesday, June 21 at Hugh Foster Hall, 53 Brown Street, Milton; and on Thursday, June 29 at the Appleby Ice Centre, 1201 Appleby Line in Burlington For more information on the Durable Halton plan, residents can visit www.halton.ca/DurableHalton or call Halton Region 1-866-4HALTON, or TTY at 905-827-9833.
