Acton Seniors Centre board members tour out-of-town senior centres JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre I hope many of you managed to get to either the Acton Seniors Centre or the Gellert Centre for some of the activities during Seniors Week in Halton Hills last week. Acton finished up the week with an evening barbecue followed by Mr. Banjo himself, Mel Collie. I was at the Gellert Centre on Thursday and had the pleasure of seeing and hearing both the Georgetown Seniors Band and the Doo-Wop Band from the Acton Seniors Centre. Everyone enjoyed both bands and each had quite individual types of entertainment. Everyone enjoyed the sing-a-long to the Georgetown Band and had fun, watching and dancing, to the entertaining Acton group. The two cribbage teams that represented us at the Halton District Seniors Cribbage Games did very well. Mary Walsma and Gerry Kroezen took fourth place and Lloyd Broostad and Norma Titus placed eighth. Congratulations. Some of the board members including Dave Dodgson, Victor Bissonnette and Margaret Anderson took time to visit three senior centres in Oshawa and came back with some great ideas. All three were different; one was incorporated with a library and swimming pool and arena complex, and another was used by seniors during the day, school children after 3 p.m. and later in the evening by adults and seniors. This seemed a great way of utilizing a facility. Betty is quite excited about a trip planned to Port Hope on Thursday, July 13. Not only will you have a tour of the town with a stepon guide pointing out all the interesting places, but lunch and a show at a the 75-yearold Capital Theatre is also on the agenda. Don't forget the Centre is open Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It's always nice and cool here, so if the heat is getting to you, pop in and cool off.
