Bland to represent Canada at World Dance Championships Angelynn Bland, 16, of Georgetown has been chosen by the Canadian National Dance Team to represent Canada at the World Dance Championships to be held in Germany, November 20-27. The best dancers from around the world will be striving to be world champions. The Canadian dancers are known to be some of the best with 11 world titles to their credit. Auditions for the Canadian National Dance Team brought out some of the best dancers from across Canada with over 300 participants competing for a position on the team to represent Canada. Bland of Flamingo Dance Studio has been selected as a Showdance Team member. "This is the most exciting and important competition I have attended so far," says Angelynn, "I will be representing my country along with 23 other members of the Showdance Team. We have already formed a strong bond even though we are from different studios." Dance is not recognized in Canada as a sporting event-- even though many of these dancers train up to seven days per week. They are as flexible as gymnasts, graceful as figure skaters, and as dedicated as any Olympic athlete. Each dancer is required to obtain their own sponsors, as the Canadian National Team has been unsuccessful in obtaining a major sponsor or any government support. Any donations to help Angelynn represent Canada at this prestigious World Level Competition would be greatly appreciated. Call Dorri Bland, Flamingo Dance Studio, 905-873-0620.
